I am a complete newbie to backing up DVD's, having only used DVD X Copy for a couple of disks before.
I'd like to back up Monsters Inc, but am not sure how to proceed. It is a DVD9 disc. It contains both a Wide Screen and a FullScreen version. I would like to remove to Full Screen version and from what I understand I should then be able to burn just the WS version.
I've read this thread over and over where the poster had the same problem but am confused as to the best way to proceed.
Any help would be greatly appreciated (By me and a gorgeous 2 year old little girl!
Thanks

dafreak: I want to back up the whole DVD minus the FS version of the film. By removin this, from what I can tell it will be able to all fit on 1 DVD+R
DoubleShadowIce: Thanks for the link. It looks awfully intimidating to do with this being my first disc, but I'll give it a shot tonight and report back! -
Hi all.
Touchdown,
I'm not sure it would be enough for the Widescreen version not to require any compression, but you could try applying "Still Pictures" to the Full-screen one using DVD Shrink.

Thanks for the replies, I messaged Evil Twin who had this same problem a few weeks back and this is how he got it to work. Think I'll try this tonight.

Lets see if memory serves...
1. CloneDVD
You can use this for ripping if you also use AnyDVD first.
(You can get around not needing AnyDVD, if you rip using DVDDecrypter in File Mode.)
Choose just the version of the movie you want (video format will read 16:9 for WS and 4:3 for Full Screen ) by checking the box.
Look for a "Preserve Menus" box (upper right side), click if it is not already.
I saved to HDD as DVD Files
2. IfoEdit
I had the movie start as First Play. (The movie will start playing when the disc is inserted.)
------
**I was not able to use MenuEdit to remove the Full Screen button ( I couldn't figure it out on the free version and seeing that, I did not want to pay for the full version of MenuEdit)
So that is the reason I went with the IfoEdit editing.
Results:
Movie plays upon inserting the disc into player.
If I need to access the Menu (for Chapter Selection or anything else),
I use the remote.
Everything else is there. -
Just wanted to update that I followed the information that I posted in the previous message and I got it to work!
Thanks for the input from people.
