Media is a bunch of left wing, biased writing baboons ( most of them). they push their agenda onto the public. media is supposed to report from a factual basis w/o opinions and feelings inserted into the story. unfortunately they only tell stories that support their agenda.

The distortion and lies committed by the media are INCREDIBLE. That ppl actually believe this nonsense is even more so. Every story is designed to get ratings. In the US in particular, everything is so pro-America and designed to inspire hatred of other countries and religions, it makes me sick.

When opinion enters journalism exits. - TvNewsLies.org
The public was told that Saddam posed an imminent threat. If that claim was fraudulent, the selling of the war is arguably the worst scandal in American political history ? worse than Watergate, worse than Iran-contra. Indeed, the idea that we were deceived into war makes many commentators so uncomfortable that they refuse to admit the possibility. - Paul Krugman
?Still, we have not seen such systematic distortion of intelligence, such manipulation of American opinion, since the War in Vietnam? - John Brady Keisling - Career US Diplomat 27-Feb-2003
?It is reported that more than half of Americans believe that Saddam Hussein is responsible for the terrorist attacks of 9/11. This means that the U.S. media have utterly, spectacularly, shamefully and pathetically failed.? - THIS IS AN OUTRAGE! THE MEDIA IS 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN!!! 100% THEY ARE GUILTY! PERIOD; END OF STORY!!! - TvNewsLies.org
"In my 35 years in politics, one of the things that makes me saddest is that I've seen a deterioration of the coverage of government in the media" - Congressman Barney Frank
?Here's a quiz for you: Name the best-known and most influential conservative commentators in America? Rush Limbaugh? George F. Will? Bill O'Reilly? Now, quick, who are their liberal counterparts?
If you can't think of any, you're not alone.? - Thane Peterson
?Most of us whose bylines appear in the American media should be embarrassed to look our readers, viewers and listeners in the eye. We are being held up for ridicule by real journalists, such as Webb, from nations that once looked upon us as the epitome of truth and integrity. The ridicule is richly deserved.? - DAVID HUNDTER - June 30, 2003

I hate posts like this. Most of us are just doing our job.

It's only the BROADCAST media that give us a bad name, with their unresearched editorial style... or like FOX, a crossover from marketing into the news.

Also .... "Our job is to give people not what they want, but what we decide they ought to have." -- Richard Salent, Former President CBS News .... there's nothing wrong with that quote. It simply means we decide what is important or not. But it's said bad, and always used in the wrong context. So who's fooling who here?

Also when referring to "Rush Limbaugh? George F. Will? Bill O'Reilly", use the word journalist very loosely. Those guys are commentator clowns.

It's an effective tactic, and not just limited to journalism. Just change the word 'ratings' to 'funding'; we regularly use the same arguments to ensure mutually-assured destruction can happen 100 times over, and in as little as six minutes.

Not that my bank account complains too loudly, though.

  10. The liberal counterparts to Rush Limbaugh and the others mentioned consist of the entire news staff of ABC, NBC, CBS, and others. Rush does not claim to be a journalist, and clearly admits his bias, Brokaw, Jennings, etc., claim to be unbiased journalists.

I could give many examples, but this one sticks out. During the vote-counting controversy in Palm Beach, Florida, all the TV media I saw showed film and commentary of " an angry Republican mob attempting to storm the elections office". NONE of these reported that the Republicans were angry because a group composed solely of Democrats was attempting to ILLEGALLY remove a large number of unresolved ballots to a back room and "count" them with NO supervision from anyone who was not a Democrat.

As far as Saddam not being an imminent threat, what do YOU call a nutcase with large quantities of various kinds of poison gas and bio-toxins, (and an active nuclear-weapons program) who has used them, and who definitely has links to many groups who wish to kill innocent people, including women and children, from many countries, including the US? Are these items there now? Apparently not, that's just the point. Do you suppose he gave them to the Salvation Army, or what? If you live within a hundred miles or so of a major seaport, anywhere in the world, you should be concerned. Take a good look at your children and think about it.

The only place I have heard a DIRECT link suggested between Saddam and 9/11 has been in the media, and NOT the statements of the Bush administration. A link with Al Qaida, yes, a 747-hijacking training area, yes, but not a direct link with 9/11. I find it fascinating that the 747 fuselage used for terrorist training is dismissed as it was in place AFTER 9/11. So is training people to hijack a 747 a good thing?

    Wow!!!

Nelson, you're as full of crap as a Christmas Goose.

You think any Liberals have the money to own a Media outlet?

Horse puckey. And don't say Ted Turner,he's as Conservative as the rest of you. You want to "keep what's yours", peons pay taxes, isn't that what Leona said, only the little people.

As of now with about 575 infected with Hepatitis A, as in PA, the FDA and CDC have stated that Mexican onions are the cause. They don't even know if onions are the cause but they are sure covering the asses of the US growers of onions.

Iraq had all this crap, nuclear weapons and the like, and not only didn't use them but, somehow, disappeared them by the time the US troops and inspectors got to Baghdad?

Rumsfeld said "We haven't found them but we know where they are. They're somewhere around Baghdad, somewhere to the North, East, South or West of the city."

Wow!!! We have it narrowed down to the Middle East somewhere. Unless they're not there either. But we still shouldd have gone in,after all we can get, not only cheap oil, but give Cheney's cronies billions in contracts to rebuild what we have bombed to smithareens..

I don't suppose you read the recent Bizzarro comic panel where the mother tells her son they're tearing down his school but they have gotten him a seat in one of the new schools they're building in Iraq.

    Can you spell "gullible"?

    Cheers,

    George

I don't even know what "liberal" and "conservative" mean anymore, not that I ever did. I used to align myself with the Democrats the most, as do most of the rest of the media, but in recent years, I don't want anything to do with any political party.

  18. I personally do not think that the media is trying to brainwash everybody as in some sort of grand conspiracy sorta way. I mean truth is, its all about money. People inherantly like contriversy so the media tends to take more contraversal spins on things to sell more commericals or newspapers, if your demographic tends to be more liberal, then take a liberal stance on things. So the stone truth is that the media just gives the public what they want, if they didn't then nobody would watch and they would lose money which is a big no no in corporate america. Now if you want to get into the discussion of whether people start wanting what the media starts showing, then your getting yourself into a whole chicken before the egg discussion...

Exactly. We just report on the things you want to read about... although most people never seem to get past page 1. There's lots of good stuff on the other pages... and rarely does it involve political, war, or business.

The problem with todays media is that anything and everything is passed off as "News".
Is learning that Bennifer got a marriage license, or Madonna and Britney kissed, or who the latest survivor cast off was, or what David Blaine's latest stunt was, news ?
An american writer for the NY times consistently lied and plagerized his stories, what happened to him, he got a book deal, Rush Limbaugh shows himself for the bigot he is, and he is still working, 10,000 people die in an earthquake in Turkey,on the same day the US networks show 6 hours of a battleship in the middle of the ocean looking for a small plane belonging to JFK jr.
Most media stories today are based on rumor, speculation, assumptions, and unnamed "sources", and it seems quite acceptable both in the British Tabloids, and the US media to print/broadcast unverified accounts of their version of the news. Kind of reminds me of the Soviets and Tass-only the news we know you need to know.

I work as a freelancer in the print media. Definitely NOT the tabloids or wacko psuedo-news (broadcast news) industry. Call it snobbish, but we in the real news rarely consider tabloids "media", referring to it mainly as "3rd world toilet paper".

And don't forget Pravda, the better of the two publications, in my opinion. Absolutely hilarious that Pravda means 'truth' in Russian, considering most of what I would read resembled the truth about as much as horseshit resembles roast beef.

It has improved greatly since the fall of Soviet Union, though. The online version is excellent, so long as you don't mind exposing your brain to the philosophical beliefs of Russian society. It can be a major culture shock.

  25. I said nothing about OWNERSHIP of media outlets, I was talking about the obvious bias of the on-air personalities, which is clearly not the same thing.

To call Rush a bigot is inaccurate, if you disagree with a particular stated opinion or fact, say so. To apply such a broad and inflammatory label is pointless. And he is an entertainer, NOT a journalist. His bias is clearly stated, there is no claim to be objective.

That the WMD's have not been found is just the point. Do you agree with the various international authorities that say they were there, that by treaty and good sense they should NOT be there, and that SOMEBODY should go get them and verifiably destroy them? OH, and when you say Saddam never used them, say it real loud so the several hundred dead in Hallabjuh(sp?) can hear you?

  27. I don't know who to scold first, the millions of Americans who believe anything that they see or hear on TV, or the TV stations who use the news as the medium by which they can further their own agendas. Now, I would be the first person to argue that FOXNews is neither fair nor balanced, but if it has done anything for us, it has shown us by contrast that those "trustworthy" sources of news such as CNN, NBC, CBS, etc. that we have turned to for years and years have been feeding the American public their own skewed version of the world in which we live, just as FOX is feeding us their version. Atleast with shows like Hannity and Colmes, and Crossfire there are two conflicting viewpoints (which still may not satisfy everyone, but that's a whole other problem), as opposed to other shows on those channels that represent only one point of view.

I was recently following the medicare debate and was dissappointed that no one would actually mention what the bill said so that I could decide for myself whether or not I thought it was a good idea. All they did was show senators arguing that it was either the destruction of medicare and that those who voted for it were heartless SOB's who were trying to line their own pocketbooks by patronizing drug companies, or that those who voted against it were dooming seniors not only to a lifetime of out-of-pocket drug expenses, but that they would somehow end up in hell as a result. As it stands, I still don't know whether or not I would have voted for it because none of the major networks could tell me what the bill actually said without putting their own personal spin on it.

    http://www.rushlimbaughonline.com/articles/bigotshtick.htm

I stand by my statement that Mr. Limbaugh is a bigot, from his recent comments on Donovan McNab to his views on American Indians and welfare recipients to name only a few. Every day he does what you accuse me of doing, using broad and inflammatory labels.(but he calls himself a devil's advocate)
I would agree that Mr. Limbaugh is not a Journalist, but I think he would be very suprised to find that out, along with the millions of Ditto heads who follow him daily. Used to love the guy, but he has become a republican propagandist , only interested in self promotion.

    I think Treebeard has it right. In school I was taught that a news article (or story) should contain the following information;
    WHO?
    WHAT?
    WHERE?
    WHEN?
    WHY?
    HOW?

Any "editorializing" was to come from direct quotes of witnesses or interviewees but none were to come from the reporter. If the story had historical references, (serial killer stories e.g.) then connection "could" be made to those stories by a reporter on occasion.

These days the reporter not only editorializes on his/her own, but I frequently see that key questions from the list above are shunted aside to make room for the spin the reporter is trying to create. Todays newspapers read more like a creative writing exercise than the news.

Any alert, free thinking idividual can see this and easily disregard the spin and concentrate on the facts, IF they're provided. The spin doctoring is for the mindless lemmings that fall for it.
Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

    Nelon,

Did you take ******* 101 in schooll? "I said nothing about OWNERSHIP of media outlets....".

The OWNERS have no say over what the talking heads parrot?

What planet do you come from? You don't do ass the boss says, you're out the door. You have heard of Editors, as in PerryWhite, and Jamieson of Spiderman? I use these just in case you don't know there is just so much newsprint allocated, or airtime, and the Editor says what will be printed or mouthed.

Limbaugh is a rule unto himself. He gets paid multi-millions to spout the party line. He lies like a rug.

He is also a huge hypocrite, as he has said numerouss times that drug abusers shouldd be arrested, tried and locked up.

Except when it is him. He says, well, my back hurt, so I bought thousands of these here pills to take my mind off my pain. Of course, they didn't tell me it would kill my ears, but you guys were really, really sympathetic to me when I told you I was deaf, and was going to have an operation to get my hearing back.

Thi is what you consider a responsible reporter of facts? See line one, above. Jesus, I hope you're not old enough to vote!!!
