JUst picked up 2 packs of these at Office Max. All showing the same TDK code on my Pioneer-104. Burned 1 at 2x which can't be read about 3/4 of the way on the disc.
Burned one more @ 1x and showed up fine and played all the way through using Nero CD/DVD speed and my set-top Philips 711 and Toshiba 3950. This is with 4.32 GB of info on the disc.

    Just an FYI.

purchase a 10 pk aswell..but what scares me from burning them is that there's a warning description inside the package saids, it may damage your Pioneer drive 102, 104, etc...when using these medias. I have a Pioneer 105. I don't wanna screw up my DVD-RW.

Well normally Khyper is CMC that I've seen, I've had NO luck with them. These new ones seem to come up as TDK from what you say, but heck I don't evne think TDK is using TDK disc right now, they seem to be OEMing Riteks and TYs from what I've seen.

Is is possible that Khyper is using bunk TDKs? I dunno. But I didn't like Khyper for CDs so I'm sure not gonna trust them for DVDs.

You don't need to worry about that. There was a Firmware issue a while back with the 103/104 and some of the higher speed discs. Your 105 should be fine as well as anyone who is using the newer firmwares with the 103/104. I am using 1.41 and no problems with the disc.

Because without a firmware update a 4x disc could damage a Pioneer 1 or 2x burner. If you have a 4x burner it shouldn't be a problem.

I am positive about that. Luckily I wasn't one of he people who fried my burner when it first happened because I burn every disc at 1x speed for quality issues. I burn only movies and I don't want them freezing 3/4's of the way through so I only burn at 1x because I find for me there is less chance of error. It takes an hour but that doesn't bother me. I've got 4 machines so I just set it and forget it and it pops out an hour later and I use the other machines to surf the net, etc.

Even if you have an 4x media, with Pioneer 2x burner you still couldn't burn at 4x..i don't see how that damage the burner.

YOU don't need to see how it could happen. Trust me there were many pissed off people who had 103 and 104 Pioneer burners that were ruined by 4x media. Flaystus is right .You have a 105. It's not your problem. If you don't want to use the DVD's I'll PM you my address and you can send them to me.

  11. y'all that bought the free after rebate dvdr's from officemax might want to look at the rebate form.

Looks like good ole' officemax is up to its "tricky dick" tactics again.

The way I read the rebate is that you have to buy the kypermedia burner AND the dvdr's (or the 100 cdr spindle). If you didnt then you wont be getting it for free.

First impression: garbage. Not worth buying, not worth finding out. TDK is too well known at being faked, and KHypermedia is too well known for being garbage quality media with mixed results. Odds are, it's fake TDK from a unknown OEM or Princo. And let's not forget the underhanded nature of OfficeMax rebates.

This is a gamble with bad odds.

Nope- You need to read it a little better. It is said on the rebate form
and/or, not just and. And you need to get the rebate forms on the OfficeMax website and not the ones in the little booklet. It is very clear.
There a four different products. The CD-RW, the DVD+ or -, and the CD-R's (which I got CD-RW, CD's, and DVD-R's). The and is because you can put more than one product on the rebate form.

Well, I've burned 11 at 1x with no problems since the original 2x failure so looks like I beat the odds !!

The only thing that was shaky about the rebate was that both the OfficeMax and the Khypermedia wanted the ORIGINAL UPC. I called OfficeMax customer service and asked about it Friday afternoon and they said just send tem the copy. Of course I talked to a supervisor and got her name, etc. It's amazing how the odds can go in your favor when you cover your bases. I knew this was the case because I had received rebates from OfficeMax before using the copy but every time I do I get a name. Granted their rebates are more work that Office Depot, Best Buy, etc., but I got a free (after rebates) 52x CD-RW made by Benq, 2 packs of the DVD's (with one rebate going to another household) and 100 free CD-R's. So even if they were half coasters, I got half for nothing.

Of course, it is far too hard for some on the forum to say "Nice deal if they work out for you". Much more fun to try to rain on the parade and put in negative comments that really have 0 constructive value.

While misery loves company, it won't get any from me.

I'm happy with the deal and the burner and the DVD's and the CD's so good for me !!!!

Be sure to verify all media with a scandisc tool. Free for 1x isn't bad.
