I have just purchased the new Pioneer DVR-A03 DVD writer drive and was wondering if someone could suggest some good DVD authoring software. This is not Hollywood style stuff. Just something to use to edit home movies and other video events with a little pizzaz!!!

    Thanks in advance...

  3. Spruce UP and MyDVD are fine for simple DVD authoring. The version of MyDVD that comes with the European Pioneer drive even supports chapters.

DVD Virtuoso from Spruce as also very good and is a fairly professional product. Support motion menus, multiple sound tracks (OK.. 2) , subtitles etc. etc. etc. It's also very easy to use.

I'm not sure if it's still available though after Apple took over Spruce.

Videopack 5 from Roxio is also supposed to be very good but I haven't used it yet.

  4. MGI's 'VideoWave' and Ulead's 'Visual Studio' are the most common and simple mpeg capable editing packages. One or the other is usually bundled with firewire upgrades and the like. You can probably find them for about USD100 or less.

The other two responses are pretty good starting points for the actual authoring software that turns the mpeg files into dvd files for burning.
