  1. Can a TBC (Time Base Corrector) adjust tapes that are already recorded with tearing or out of sync video?

The reason I ask is that I have some old TV shows that are 2nd generation copies and they recorded whatever defects the 1st generation had which includes the tearing at the top and jittering of video. Also there is waving of all vertical lines or objects.

I don't want to get a TBC to correct this if it is not going to correct old copies.

Has anyone tried this similar problem?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. No, it will not help in that case.

  3. Okay thanks. Can I assume though that it may just stabilize whats going into it from that VCR. Obviously it won't correct an already bad tape.

Respectively disagree. The signal has been lost - there is no way to recreate sync on 2n generation. Actually, I correct myself - it is not impossible, just that a TBC will not help - you will have recreate the "torn" signal - most likely through frame-by-frame analysis and remediation. Not aware of any product that can do this.

  6. This question was prompted because I was getting tearing at the top of the video frame with erratic sync of the video. It would "pop" as if it lost the sync signal. It is hard to explain.

Well anyway I switched my 9600 AIW out for my old 7500 AIW and the tearing and everything else disappeared. I thought my vcr was dirty until I cleaned it out by hand and plugged it into another TV and the video was fine there.

So to make a long story longer: It turns out to be that the capture drivers for the 9600 or even the 9600 has issues with capturing.

I used the latest drivers for the 9600 and the original for the 7500.

So question is (since a TBC might not be needed), could there be an issue with the 9600 and video capture drivers?

  7. Ok so I swapped the 9600 AIW back in with the cd drivers then the latest downloadable drivers and still no luck. I even tried to go back on to the earliest MMC drivers that support the 9600 and that didn't work.
I even changed the purple jack pod and that didn't work. I don't know what it is but if I capture again soon I will have to swap in my old 7500 AIW and out for UTK3 on the 9600.
I will contact ATI on this to see if there is some kind of hardware issue. I have tried everything I can think of. I even re-installed the AGP drivers from VIA for my mobo. I have the latest mobo BIOS too.

I've seen my JVC 9800 TBC fix this, as have I seen this fixed by my Datavideo TBC-1000 ... it just depends on the source, comound issues, and other factors... only 2nd gen copy leads me to believe error is correctable, normally is within first 2-3 generations or so.

  9. I checked on air video against taped video. It seems like the 9600 has a problem with tapes. The off air video was clear as day compared to the distorted picture of the tape. But the 7500 has performed flawlessly for me for the past couple of years.
