  1. man i just typed all this and lost it oh well tis what i get for not cntl-c

alright im gonna try not to put you all to sleep. I guess sys specs are in order
    rig 1:
    Asus A7M266-D
    2* XP 2400+ L5 modded
1.5 gig mushkin pc 2100 ECC REG
    1 ATA 133 120 gig
    2* SATA 200 gig RAID 0 64 bit
    nvidia personel cinema 64mb

    rig 2 :
    Abit KR7A/R
    tbred xp 1700+ @ 2.0 ghz
    512 mb corsair xms 2700
    1 ata 100 40 gig
    2* ATA 133 60 gig RAID 0
    ATI 8500 DV 64 mb (MMC 7.5)

    Im using a sony VCR
    SIMA SCC pro
Sony trv-310 (wont allow pass through or record any MV stuff)

What i can do is archieve my DVDs to DVD's
i can take DV and make DVD

What i cant do is make archieves of my VHS tapes many of which are reaching the end of their usefull life (20 years old)

I am not familiar with the three levels of MV but im assuming level one is the white box while level two and three are color bursting and the distoritons at the top and bottom of screen.

If i try to copy to rig 1 throught the SCC i have the white box upon playback. color appears to be ok otherwise.

if i try to copy to rig 2, i can playback with no problems.
However, if I try to move it to another drive or burn it, i get color bursting, and frame lock with fade in and out.

Im not sure where i should go from here. I guess the easiest thing would be to find a MV hating VCR ( any brands/models would be great)
or is there a different driver set or proggie that can help?
Im also not opposed to getting a third capture card although i would rather not go that route if possible. any suggestions would be great

Ive been browsing these forums for a little while but im sorry that i havent made sense of it and must post to try to further my understanding of whats going one thx in advance

For archiving old VHS tapes, I would recommend the ADVC-100. You can use it with either system. Run the VCR output through the SIMA unit for fine tuning the video, then into the ADVC. The ADVC eliminates Macrovision. You do need a Firewire card, but if you have a camcorder, you probably already have one.
