  1. that you can buy regularly in the US for the price of a normal VCR (well arround 150 bucks) that will play PAL tapes (Particulary former Yugoslavia region of PAL).

I mean just go to best buy and buy one.

Why is that difficult as opposed to Europe??? I bought a Panasonic one and it has built in NTSC playback. It was about 120$ value I think.

You can do a search for "multisystem VCR". But you will need a multisystem TV as well.

    I beg to differ, milord...

If you do find one in the $120 range for our esteemed colleague, I will happily retract what I stated in my last post.

Missed the $120 part, I was just talking about the multi-systems needing a multi-system tv.

If you had a multisystem tv then it wouldn't matter what VCR or DVD Player you used, but that's the whole point of multisystem players...most people outside of PAL regions don't have multisystem tv's.

dinkob the reason players in PAL regions support NTSC so readily is because PAL tv's actually support a format called PAL 60Hz which is basically just a modification of NTSC. So the requirements of such a player are small because it only has to slightly modify the signal as opposed to having to make a player which essentially does a full blown conversion from PAL to NTSC, because NTSC tv's are much more limited.

Yeah that's the answer then why.

Anyways (I know I am being obnoxious with this but here's few more questions).

I already have Samsung SV5000W. In the other forum I noted that the SP mode PAL on this unit died (so did the SP mode NTSC). SLP/EP on both PAL and NTSC works ok so is the PAL to NTSC converter (built in converter inside the unit).

Now, I bought Panasonic VCR in europe which works OK on 110 Volt (I am sure it has some sort of Stabilizer inside the unit that makes it work on lower voltage electricity).

So the current setup for PAL SP tapes I have is the PAL COAX connection to SAMSUNG (Italy set as country) then RCA to my JVC VCR then COAX to Hauppage WinTV card.

Obviously it's a long connection with a lot of signal loss. Moreover my picture from PAL SP tapes looks jumpy (this may be due to a converter inside the Samsung or the fact that the tape is from 70's).

Now Both Samsung and Panasonic VCR have a SCART connector in the back. Would it be better to link two of them using SCART instead of COAX? Again this is how it would look like > Panasonic SCART OUT to IN SCART Samsung, then SAMSUNG RCA out to JVC then COAX to Hauppage card.

I don't know I am out of IDEAS here.

Where would be good place to buy that SCART plug and how much are they usually?

***EDIT*** I uploaded a sample (please don't download too much, only experienced ppl) of the conversion I did recently linking three VCRs so you tell me what you think.
