I wouldnt pay for downloading music. The way i see it is, when i download music, I'm actually helping the record industry. Before I downloaded music, I hardly ever bought cd's in the stores because of their high prices. The only cds i ever bought were bands that i already knew about. Now with downloading, i can dl a whole cd or some songs on it to see if its worth spending 15-20 bucks on. if it is, then i will go out and get it. Thats the only way i will buy cds these days, unless of course the cds are less than 10 dollars. then i can see buying one. but for cds to be 15-20 dollars, thats just bullsht. the recording artist and companies do not need to charge that much to make money. there are plenty of bands that arent on record labels, or are on less known record labels, that sell their cds for 5 bucks or so, and they are making enough money.

CUrrently I'm a big fan if iTunes, I've purchased about $40 in music from them since they came online, in contast I've only purchased like 6 CDs in the last year, two were new and cost WAY to much and the othrs I got very cheap off of half.com.
If a cheaper alternitive comes along I'll use it, but ONLY if I can play them in iTunes and on the iPod I eventually plan to get. -
I like www.buymusic.com,no monthly fee. There are ways around the limits...hypothetically speaking.

Does anyone know when Apple are planning to get iTunes going in the UK? It seems fairly priced (99c = 66p per track). We pay up to £4 for a SINGLE.
I look forward to getting an album for £7 instead of £14.

im going to say what, no doubt, a lot of ppl are thinking
i download music because its cheaper. it costs me £15 to buy an album, but downloading is free. i would much rather buy the CD, but its too expensive. i like listening to music, but not so much that it is worth £15! or even 10!!! the best way to eliminate piracy is to reduce the price! i would buy the accasioanal album is it was £5 or something- and im talking about brand new albums, not old ones!
the 2 major appeals of downloading songs are:
near instant song access- no need to go out and shop
you only pay for the songs you want
i think 25p would be a much more suitable fee for downloading music. i would definatly pay 25p for a song, but not much more! call me tight, but i dont listen to music much, only in the car and accasionally at home, so if im paying £15 for an album i dont get my monys worth
the same goes for DVDs and computer games!!!1)Why Not Overclock a little?! speed 4 free!!!!
2) If your question has anything to do with copying PS2/PC/XBox games, find a more appropriate website -
The RIAA actually have the upper hand:
- Release more albums in DVD-A (the quality is superior to CD)
- Offer more bonus tracks/rarities and other gems as part of the package
- Release more out of print albums (some people have broader tastes and interests than what the marketplace limits them to)
- Sign some artists with talent - sex can can only go so far
- keep the price of albums at an affordable range - that movies cost less than albums should tell ya something
- Stop trying to shut every downloading source on the 'net...your greed is what is actually hurting your potential sells - not helping.
- Stop biting the hands that feed ya
The appeal for me in P2P/file sharing was the wide range of diversity.
A good bit of what I found in the beginning was stuff that isn't commercially available and making a lot discoveries along the way...not to mention meeting many others with similar tastes.
Unfortunately, that's what the RIAA ruined by getting sites shut down and scaring off so many people.
The mainstream crap is all still accessible and always will be.
And my answer is No - I'm not interested in paying for compressed music.
That's like selling compressed movies when you can just buy the same thing in DVD quality. Only the selection is far worse
Why do they think people want that? -

I don't know why they're angry about buymusic.com,is it because they're promoting iTunes and they hate WMA?I like buymusic.com because it's fast to checkout, you can listen before buying, you can d/l an album for $8-10USD and..oh yeah..NO $9.95 monthly fee.One thing I don't like is their older music is encoded in WMA8 but most is 128kbps WMA9 and it is encrypted so no making audio CD's but as I said earlier there are ways around that...hypothetically speaking. -
What? If you dl from them you can't burn a CD?? That's not worth it.

Napster went offline a while ago, thus I didn't dl music for at least a few months bc I was unable to.
Take away KaZaa, Morpheus, etc, problem solved for RIAA, whom I believe is doing the right thing, even though I dl myself. -
I can see both sides of the mix: (A) I hate to pay the ridiculously high prices for cds. I mean, when it gets down to it, the industry gets blank cds for pennies or less, and out of millions and millions of cds sold, I am sure that the industry gets more than enough money to cover production costs (Mastering/Duplicating equipment, Studio Equipment, technicians), and the artists also get quite a bit of green. You hear about some artists bitching about "I'm losing money since people steal my music." Well, if you continuously buy new Cadillac Escalades, Hummers, Jags, 2nd and 3rd homes, various "medications" and whatnot, you will lose money no matter how much you make. It's like a news story I saw the other day on MSNBC about Britney Spears, who likes to buy $300 panties. WHY DO MUSICIANS NEED ALL THAT CRAP?
Anyway, I also see the downsides of swapping. If you get something for free, you don't appreciate it as much as you would if you paid for it with your hard earned money...case in point, if someone were to hand you the keys to a new BMW for free, you would be more likely to drive a little more recklessly, a little faster, and be a little less concerned about if you wrecked it, than if you had spent $60,000 out of your own pocket for it.
Itunes has a good system going...artists and producers get their piece of the action, the prices are decent, sometimes phenomenal. I'm willing to pay for my music, but out the butt. Besides, peer to peer is kinda iffy, especially with all them viruses running around."I argue very well. Ask any of my remaining friends. I can win an argument on any topic, against any opponent. People know this, and steer clear of me at parties. Often, as a sign of their great respect, they don't even invite me."

This is why the sob stories about Whacko Jacko going broke make me laugh.
Boo-*******-hoo.

I dont think downloading is that big of a deal. I usually buy the entire CD though because I find that the more I listen to a group, the more I begin liking the type of music they play.
