This is the basic TV card, supplied with the WinTV2000 software.

However the German site has a program called "NanoDVR" with this installed you can capture PAL/NTSC VCD compliant mpegs in good quality.

    http://www.hauppauge.de/software.htm#tools

Card is available for less than $50 (USA) not sure of the UK price.

Card has both TV and Video input, with the NanoDVR program its well worth the money.

    P3, 450
Captured DVD 1.5 hours long, with no frame drop to VCD.mpeg ready to burn.

    Very good FREE ! software.

  6. The nanocosmos mpeg-2 software encoder is only for the ones that already have a WinTV card installed. Otherwise, you can download a trial version from http://www.nanocosmos.de

  8. I would take issue with this, i personally can't get the wintv pci to capture sound when recording to mpeg, and having scavenged around the internet i see this is a common problem put down to second rate drivers.
