So I go into 'The Vault' here at The Ranch to find two 3" CD-RWs I made about 2 years ago. These little gems (one is the long version of the 'Herding Cats' commercial EDS did awhile back) did not get backed up to tape or another disc. Not that they are life-critical clips, but I'd like to have access to them, especially the Herding Cats.
Unfortunately, stupid ol' Indolikaa managed to save these two files on discs formatted with Direct-CD. Why? Well if I knew I'd be the first to post a 'what the Hell were you thinking' post but I can't remember why. Probably just my normal lazy self.
Anyway, are there any programs out there, other than Roxio's latest incarnation of Hell, that can attempt to recover/repair packet-written discs?
Your Thoughts on this Matter are Appreciated.![]()
Your Ridicule of Indolikaa is Expected. :P

What's the problem?
Can't be read with newer verions, or packet written can't be converted at all.
I know when I upgraded Nero many moons ago, it said to uninstall InCD,as the new version would not read, and would conflict with, I think, the new version.
If the problem is with the version, I go baack to 3.5. If that is the problem, and if it can be pulled from the 3 inch disks as a standard file, if you want to send 'em to me, I'll install 3.5 and try to help you. It wouldd be on one of the other machines. If if f**ks up, no problem reloading Win 98.
If that ain't the problem, if being packet written is the problem, and it can't be pulled, say so.
I don't really know. The one time I tried packet writing, to, I think, a CD-RW, it said it could format for packet writing and would only take a couple minutes longer. Turned out it added "only a couple minutes" to a 35 minute formatting. Never used it.
Cheers,

Have you tried old UDF Reader? I used to burn files that way and they still read on my 5 year old scratched HP CD-RW. You can probably get it at Roxio.com or a web search

How-dee!
George, I am totally unprepared for your questions, probably because you went right for the obvious. I'm thinking of changing my avatar from Teller's brainchild to a box of rocks.
I am restoring a fresh configuration on one of my drives. I will start with Adaptec EZCD 4.0 and work my way up from there. I will then report what has and has not worked, what error messages have popped up, etc. My apologies for not doing my homework first. Bad newbie!
Freestyler, I didn't think of that. My EZCD 4 disc has a version that should be plenty old enough!
