  1. I have just bought a DVD-R/RAM Burner. I converted Divx files to DVD using TMPGenc. and authored them with TMPGDVD author. I used Verbatim DateLifePlus DVD-R x2 Discs.

Now the discs play on my PC but with no sound. They play on a friends PS2 with vision and sound no Problem! But they won't play on my Scneider 1003 DVD player bought from ASDA. It just says loading and will not read the disc. On this site everyone says that this DVD player plays DVD-R fine.

Is it the discs that are bad?
Do I need to change a setting when converting/Authoring?
Or do I just have a duff DVD player?

If anyone can help me before I have to go out and buy a new DVD player I would be most grateful.

  3. It's just possible that your DVD player doesn't like the mp2 audio you used when encoding/authoring/burning. European players are supposed to support it but as its commercial use has been next to non-existent and the requiremet for its support has been dropped, that may explain the problem.

Try creating a disc with Ac3 or PCM audio and see if that works.

  4. There is actually an option on TpGMenc for PCm audio and that didn't work either. But as I say the whole thing doesn't seem to work on my DVD player.

I am now thinking that as the discs work fine on a PS2 until near the end where it freezes it may be the discs I'm using as they were quite cheap @ £10 for five.

    I will try AC3 though!

  5. £10 for 5 is npot that cheap, but it doesn't mean they are any good. Try somewhere that sells sample packs of different media brands so you can find out what works best with your player without spending a fortune on coasters. In the UK I think www.blankdiscshop.co.uk do medi sample packs.
