Hi all. I have a toshiba SD-R5002 and i was wondering if any body knew any good media for it. I found a good deal on Prime 4x dvd-r media at www.meritline.com but i dont know if their any good on the drive that i have. I was also considering the Riteks off the same site too, but if anybody could recommend a good generic media that burns at a steady 2x on a toshiba i would greatly appreciate it. I made a mistake last time because i bought the HQ DVD-R 4x and they sucked. I dont want to make the same mistake again. Once again, your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance![]()

For 1x burns I have had great luck with leda/princo disks from shop4tek.com. I only burn any disks to about 4gig though.
I am using ritek 4x printables from rima.com and they are burning 2x in the toshiba great.
We have the same drives. Also did you get the new firmware from toshiba? Not sure exactly what it does, but I got a reply from them said it might help with cheaper media also. -
I have heard about the firmware update but i have no idea how to install it. so i guess im stuck with the one i have for now. Also Do the regular ritek GO3 burn at 2x on the toshiba?

I haven't tried G03 yet.
As for the firmware, I don't know if it helped anything or not since I wasn't haveing any problems. I think it was pretty simple, just double click the file if I remember right. Been awhile.
I think it's to fix errors of some type some of the drives have or could have, but not all need it. I was told it might help write 2x on some cheaper media's that weren't supported at that speed before. But I still burn the 1x leda at 1x. -
OK thanks for the help on the firm ware, but as for media, has anybody tried the Prime 4x off of www.meritline.com . they have a really dark dye and i wanted to know if they worked for toshiba at 2x. Thanks

I'm surprised that you are buying X4 media for X1 burner. It can do X2 with Ritek G03 media. I have done over 50 Ritek G03's without a problem. X2 is not part of the DVD-R standard which is why no one really advertises it see below,
"This drive writes to DVD-RW disks at x1 speed and DVD-Rs at x2 speed - the x2 DVD-R writing is a non DVD forum standard" -
Thank you. I was a little skepticle on the ritek GO3's because i wasnt sure if they could write at 2x and i didnt want to get stuck writing at 1x. So i guess ill go for the Ritek GO3 instead because thats why i was going for 4x, because i was guarenteed them burning at 2x. By the way, i kinda figured that out an hour ago because the Fuji 2x are basically the same as a Ritek GO3, because i checked it before i burned it and it burns at 2x flawlessly. Thanks for your feed back

Thats a great deal! Especially for riteks since they're usually the best generic media out there. But answer me this question. Do you know of any good specials or coupons for a 50 pack of Riteks GO3's. It would be most appreciated. Thanks

I have ordered three times from them. First Ritek DVD-RW quantity of 25 to see what their service was like. Then 25 Ritek DVD-R G03's. Just last week, 100 G03's. Service was fine. They ship UPS ground and send you the tracking number so you can see for yourself where the order is. RIMA.com is another place I have ordered from. Their service is good too.

I don't know why people are so obsessed with speed - if you've got a player that is picky with the media you feed it, you might find you invest in a warehouse full of media only to find it records at 4x but doesn't play back on your target device... try before you buy (in quantity) is a safety rule everyone seems to forget. Recordable DVD media is still not as widely compatible as it could be, and burning speed isn't the end of the story.
It is no use burning at high speed if you end up with coasters or discs that only your girlfriend's half sister's boyfriend can play in a player you've never heard of... -
Burning at 2x is more of a convinience for me than it is a need. Even though 1x burning is ok sometimes, but it takes an hour for discs to burn. But if you have cheap media, like i bought last time, its the only way to burn it so that you know it will play. OK then. Just as soon as I get a little more cash im gonna buy those riteks. And here is some money saving findings. Just yesterday, I was backing something up with a FujiFilm DVD-R and i was wondering what the provider id was. So i checked it and it said that the Id was Ritek GO3. For me that sealed the deal because i can burn those discs at 2x Flawlessly. Thanks for all your help. I appreciate it.

I'll try the ritek G03 also.
I don't mind burning at 1x most the time, but often I either need several disks or have someone wiating for one, so I'll need disks that write at 2x also. If the G03 riteks write at 2x then that's best of both worlds here -
Here is a link to the Ritek G-03 sale at Supermediastore. The Ritek G-03's and the Toshiba SD-R 5002 combo have been so reliable that it is easy take good burns for granted.
http://store.yahoo.com/supermediastore/ritekdvdrblankmedia.html -
Glad to hear that on reliability
Now I'll go check out some printables there too.
I ordered 100 pack ritek g03 printables from rima.com already(Friday) fedex has had the stuff over the weekend, was shipped out fast on their end, now waiting for fedex to deliver on this end.
Also waiting for fedex on my new CPU and System board from newegg I orderd same time. -
Once again don't be fooled by "Free Shipping" "Big Sale" adds!
Looks like the same items I bought at rima.com and paid extra for shipping (included in my figures for savings) would be $2.86 less at supermediastore. Sure $3 savings is $3, but not hardly the big deal they're making of it with those high % savings sales!
"you save: 17%" and "you save: 24%", nope don't think so! I would have saved $2.86 on a $130.86 order (including the shipping)! More like I could have saved 2.18%
Anyway I have the order coming in from rima whenever Fedex gets it here.
supermediastore was about $3 less, so if you haven't found a vender you particuly like yet, I geuss they are as good as any and maybe a bit less. I never orderd there yet, maybe next time.
Look at various items though to see who's less on an order, since most the shipping costs are on the first item, often the free shipping savings go away real fast and actually start costing you more on larger orders since shipping charges do not actaully double or triple as you buy more!
Perhaps on 300 disks it would come out cheaper at rima even paying shipping extra?? -
I agree. Its not how much you save, because in reality, they jack up the price of shipping when there is so called "sales". Thats how most companies make their money. Also, the dvd sale at supermediastore.com is about 50 cents cheaper than at meritline.com. I for one know that meritline will get my order here on time but i dont want to try another store just because their cheaper. Also, when i bought my order of riteks at meritline.com, i came across a special offer. it was in the dvd+r section but it also seems to work for dvd-r. Type this code in before you check out and you'll get 10% off. Now thats cheaper then at supermediastore.com because for a 50 pack it comes out to be about 42.75. By the way if yall are interested heres the code: mr10pct . Im just trying to help and are in no way involved with meritline, if yall are thinkin that. Hope this helps

SuperMediaStore.com now is offerring 5% off for Ritek 4X Silver DVD-R plus Free ground shipping! i just bought 100 pack for $111 shipped with coupon "rp5off". And another good deal is 100 pack Sonix 4X dvd-R for $66 via coupon "sonix3off". Even the Sonix has compatibility issue with Sony burners, no problem with my favorite Pioneer 106.

those wont do any good in SD-R5002, its 2x max.
I had that drive a while back and found the TDK general 2x to be great! Proper 2x burn with little to no coasters. -
HI guys. I just had another question before i buy another batch of DVD-R's. Does anybody know of any good media that works for ps2 back-ups? Thanks for your help
