  1. Hi All,

I'm having REAL problems with my Bulkpaq OrangeTop DVD-R's.

I foolishly brought 50 without knowing if they were reliable for burning video to them. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the burn fine with my Pioneer 106 at any speed (I've tried 1x, 2x and 4x) but they skip on EVERY standalone player I have tried them in.

At first I thought that it would be because I was burning them at 4x so I did the same project at 1x and the same result happens.

Someone I work with uses plain white top unbranded DVD-R (purple dye as are my Bulkpaq's) that just say 'Superior 4x' in the middle of the 'spindle' and they work fine 99% of the time.

So I'm guessing it's the media.

What media do you guys use to get 100% reliability? I've read about Princo, Datawrite and all sorts of brand but it's getting very expensive as my discs are becoming useless.

    Thanks in advance,
    Brett

  2. Bulkpaq are a popular budjet brand over here in the UK, unfortunately dreaded princo (see thread in media forum)which have really gone down the pan doesnt sound like firmware issue as the burning is going fine. Problem depends on when they were bought, how long ago, there is a theory with the bulkpaqs, never tried em meself but depending on whether the rim in the middle is white or clear has some effect as they are different period discs.

  3. Hi Elmo,

    Thanks for the reply.

I've only had my Pioneer 106 for 2 months and brought the discs then as a bundle from ebuyer.com. The middle is (from edge of disc) orange, white then another small ring of orange in the centre but the underneath of the disc is clear.

I have heard about this being a factor but didn't think it would cause me this much grief and money on effectively wasted discs.

Which writer/brand of discs do you use?

    Brett

Have had skipping probs with other very cheap -r media.
When you say it movie skips is it toward the end of the movie/disc if it is then yes I would suspect the media.
How ever I've used over 50 or so of these and had no probs (yet!) with these disc's (but use optorite recorder)
Other media that work 4 me is TY and ritek (+r)
