  1. hi there,

once again im here to beg for same help, just recently my OS windows XP pro, is blocking anytime im doing any dvd authoring or convertion( dvd2one,tmpgenc, cinema craft encoder etc..) it starts well as usual but around the midle and not always at the same point it completly block having to reset the pc, ive just recently instaled aviscript and cinema craft encoder, ac3acm, do u think its a hardware problem or maybe software, ive formated the pc just to test if it was any software or bug, but still happens the same, ive never had any problems with windows xp for the past 2 years just now.

I would really apreciate some kind of help as im getting desperate.

    TIA

If this happened just after you added some software or hardware, I would suspect that. Next choice may a hardware failure; Bad memory module, failing power supply, failing HD, Bios problem. Go to Bios and reset to default. Check your voltages there if they are displayed. Run a memory test. Check to see if the problem only happens when you do something memory intensive. Substitute a memory module if you can borrow one. Trouble shooting is never easy, you just need to eliminate all of the obvious possibilities first. XP might be able to do some trouble shooting also.

  3. The problem could be sothing to do with DRM.(digital rights management) i dont think you can solve it if it is to do with DRM.
    sorry

What does the logfile say? I mean the XP logging. Usually it will give you and error and stop.

    Did you upgrade anything recently?

Are you working as an administrator (as opposed to being a user/power user)? A lot of programs create files, which is fine, but sometime folders are a no-no.

Do you have enough space? Some conversions need 20 GB of scratch space to spit out a few CDR ISO's.

Yes. Put in your Windows XP installation disk and reinstall Windows. Then start re-installing all your programs and data (backup your data before re-installing).

I'd suggest you start installing only the programs that you absolutely need first. Then start installing the programs that you're having trouble with and check each one to see if it still works after you install each one. If you hit a point where things aren't working use System Restore to go back to before the last program was installed.

But before you do all that work, have you tried to encode any other avi's besides the one you're having trouble with? The problem could be with the avi file and not the computer.

  10. I have win xp pro and i have exactly the same "freezing" problem. It is weird cause it SUDDENLY started to happen about 4 weeks ago. Then my machine got really bad due to a virus/worm thing. Anyway, that is all sorted and reformatted and reinstalled EVERYTHING! It still does the same frezzing thing though. But its weird as only ever happens at the decode part i thing - i use dvd2avi 1.773 after about 10-15 seconds it just frezzes. It also does the same thing with dvd2vcd and vcdeasy and all at the same part...

I have no idea why....Everything is fine HW and SW wise so I am as stuck as you on this one...

My hw is geforce4mx, 120gb and 20 gb hd, and 524mb memory...

Smells like a M$ patch went bad (yes, this happens constantly). Do either of you have automatic updates working? It does this by default and you have to turn it off. And do you have WMP9 installed? It's DRM fingers extned to the whole system.

  12. I have not done any of the auto updates since i had to reinstall everything. Even before then it never worked and i would have to do things manually... I blame Silly Gates... But its weird how before it just suddenly happened. Now, even though it was formatted and reinstalled it still dont work...

  14. Yeah I got wmp9 as well, I think, but I DO NOT do any of the naff MS updates..But, cybertek, do u have problems when u play games in that does it occasionally just stop and the sound screeches and you have to reboot? If it does then we both definately in the same pc hell boat!!!

  15. I THINK i know what it is but have no idea how to fix it. Basically, I went into safe mode and i can do the whole dvd2avi thing BUT only if i demux tracks to ac3 or something. But that is no good for tmpgenc. However, if i decode to wav then it crashes. So, I belive it is something to do with wav files even though both of us have formatted and reinstalled. But i have no idea how to fix our problem...
