I bought a Panasonic DVD recorder DMR-E50 and I use it mostly for audio only recording. It was told to me that if I were to record audio only onto a dvd r disc, with NO video input recording, there may be up to 6 times more recording time available on the same disc, compared to recording audio with video. For example, what he meant was,if I were to select SP mode(which is 2 hours of recording time)and record the audio from a record player with no video input inserted, the dvd r disc will store 12 hours of audio only in the SP mode,on one disc.Well I tried this and IT DOESN'T WORK.When I select SP mode, the display starts to countdown from 2:00 hours to eventually 0:00 seconds, then the display reads DISC FULL and I cannot record anymore audio, and I also notice that the disc is only burned 1/3 of the way and the remaining 2/3 of the disc is blank.
QUESTION 1: Does anyone know if it would be possible to record audio only on a dvd r disc and get FAR MUCH MORE recording time on 1 disc compared to recording video with audio? If so,how much more in time?
QUESTION 2: When I do try to record audio only on a dvd r disc,on SP mode until the display reads disc is full, the disc is only burned 1/3 of the way.Does this mean the other 2/3 of the disc is in fact BLANK.(I THINK ITS A WASTE OF DISC SPACE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO RECORD AUDIO ONLY ON A DVD R!!!!!).
