  1. Does anyone know if there is a way (tool) to convert the original separated subtitle file, which can be found on some videocd's, to a subrip or microdvd format ?

  2. VCD uses Hard coded subs ( subs you can not turn on/off)
and there is no way to 'rip' them into a txt file
SVCD uses overlay subs and i'm afraid you cant rip them either

  3. I have this Startrek VCD (have to check the title at home)
which, according to the inlay, contains subtitles.
When playing the DAT file in media player, there are no subtitles displayed.
This is why i was looking for a file which contains subtitles.
I found in a differend folder a file which displayed after opening in notepad the subtitle text but without visible framenumbers.

There are some other vcd's which have the subtitles in the frames, that's true but this one is differend.

    Any suggestions ?

  4. Many VCDs have all sorts of things on the covers (e.g., DTS) but that doesn't mean that it is necessarily true.

VCD subtitles must be hard encoded for them to work on VCD players.

CD-i players can use ?closed captions in a form of subtitles though, and that may be what you are looking at. However, these cannot be used by essentially all stand-alone VCD or DVD players.

As for your original question, I don't really know.

    Regards.
