  1. I'm not saying where the place is, as I would think what they have is a bootleg. But I was in a store in a mall today that sells HK DVDs and VCDs, and was surprised to see X-Men 2 on VCD there. I'm guessing it was bootleged since it's not supposed to get released till the 25th, but was kinda shocked as this was the only movie there I saw that hasnt been released yet, so its not like they have any other pre-released movies there.

    Do any US based studios actually release movies on VCD, or are all US movies on VCD bootlegs? Seeing that in a nice store in a nice mall was strange, Imagine going to your mall and going into a suncoast and seeing a movie on VCD that has been released yet.
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
    VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

  2. Most studios don't release movies into the US (and other western) countries in VCD officially however alot of people will import them from Asia where it is quite common for official studio VCDs to exist.

    I would be skeptical though seeing it is a new movie that hasn't been released on DVD in the US (normally the first market to get releases).

    As for it being a nice store and a nice mall, one of the local computer stores near me always used to have pirated movies playing on their computers. I believe that is one of the reasons they shut down.

    I've had previous experiences like that with suncoast...although if it is pirated, they manage to get get covers for the vcd that looks exactly like dvd.

  4. the pirated version of xmen-2 (retail dvd, pal r2) was released on august 13th.

    the pirated R1 NTSC dvd was released september 25th.

    i'm guessing the one's you saw were converted from these dvdr's..

    i'm not endorsing piracy or anything, just providing information on how this was possible.

    Coconuts has been playing Tomb Raider 2 in their stores for the past two and a half weeks already. Doesn't mean its a pirated copy.
