  1. hey forum

I've tried burning just arbitrary files onto two Verbatim 4x DVD+R's on my brand new LG GSA-4040B with A301 firmware on Nero 6 and they burn ok, they even verify ok, but after all that's said and done, NOTHING reads the burned disks, NOT EVEN the burner. Nero ejects the disk, I push the tray back in, and it won't even read the DVD+R that it just burned. And as expected neither of my mac's (one matshita dvd-ram, one some sort of combo) nor my PC's samsung dvd-rom can read the dvd+r either. Now I could understand it might be a media prob or something if it was some other brand, but I thought Verbatim was pretty good about things like these.... and why can't the burner even read them?? clearly they're being written to as you can see on the bottom of the discs.... Anybody else have similar experiences? it burns memorex dvd-r's ok, though, as many people have already reported, only at 2x.

    thanks for any help

  2. It's nice to see someone else has the same problems as I do. I have the burner and it burns DVD-R, -RW and +RW ( Fuji ) with no problems. EMTEC seem to work well with this format -R (10 burns and no coasters yet) and also Fuji -RW. But burning DVD+R is a problem. TDK, EMTEC and Sony +R discs have not worked. I had the same problem that Nero would say it's successful but would not work in either of my 2 computers or my player (Elta 8882 that plays +R & -R). As I write this I have just had my first success with a Phillips DVD+ disk. It came in a DVD case and the cover is green & black and it's speed is rated at 1-2.4. I have Nero 6.0.0.0 and am about to try 6.0.0.23 to see if this helps. Otherwise try a different authoring software as many people report problems with nero. This is what I used to make the Phillips disc work:

    1. Rip disc with DVD De-crypter in IFO mode (remember to select all the files as it will only select the movie if you want menus and other things).

    2. Use Clone DVD to convert ripped files to one disc size (under 4.4GB).
I leave the menus as it looks good and remove any subtitles and extra audio tracks I don't want.

    3. Burn with Clone DVD which is very simple.

This worked and I will try again when I can.
    I hope this helps you.

  3. Heh, my problem's the opposite...I'm able to burn DVD+R's, but having trouble with -R's...but its most likely my cheap (compusa brand!) dvd's.

Now I could understand it might be a media prob or something if it was some other brand, but I thought Verbatim was pretty good about things like these
Depends on what type of Verbatim disks. Some have dyes by 'CMC', which has an awful reputation...just do a search on these forums

  4. I have had success again with a Fuji DVD+RW as well as a EMTEC DVD+R.
Starting to look like nero is the problem. I used the same programs as I mentioned before.

I think the problem you were having with nero is the fact that you were using version 6.0.0.0. If you used the free update to 6.0.0.23, you woud likely have no problems.

I have over 50 +R burns and not a single coaster with my 4040b and Nero 6.0.0.23.

Ditto that (except that I use Nero 6.0.0.19). I love the LG-4040 drive, I love Nero 6 and I have had zero, count 'em, zero problems with this combination. For the record, I use OptoRite RW disks (-RW), Maxell/OproRite +RW and Memorex/Maxell/Sony R disks (-R and +R). Everything works fine, even on my set-top DVD players (Hitachi and Apex).

The LG-4040 is picky about the blank disks you use, but any decent name brand disk should be fine. I mention all of this only because I frequently read post on this forum bashing Nero or bashing Memorex. Based on my experience, I am happy with both products.
