  1. I just built a system with the Sony OEm DW-U14a. The damn thing didn't come with any software. I installed the interactual player but it says I can't play DVDs. I guess I need a codec. Where do I get it and is there anything else I need to do?

    Thanks,

  2. I have the exact same burner.

The Oem version will come w/ NTI Burning software and Win DVD 4 (movie maker and DVD player) . Call the person that sold you the drive and demand the disks. The software definately sucks, but it will get you started. Nero 6 and some high end editing software is really what you need if you can spare the cash.

The drive is awesome. It burns every type of media you throw at it, cheap or expensive. (45 burns so far, no coasters)

  4. The retail version of our drive is called dru 510A. I would uninstall the hardware at the control panel, restart the computer and let windows XP install the basic driver. after this you should be able to view dvds on windows media player.

You can get the updated driver/firmware and all the manuals at:

    Hope this helps
