When I convert a VOB file with DVD2Avi the audio file I get is .ac3 rather than .mpa and TMPGE will not open the .ac3 file. Any suggestions how I can conver large VOB files to smaller MPG files ?

    Thanks

Use BeSweet to convert the AC-3 to a WAV file then you can input the WAV file into TMPGEnc.

However if you are re-encoding for DVD then you can use the original AC-3 audio file ... unless of course you are making a VCD or SVCD (shame on you) then yeah convert to a WAV with BeSweet ... also if doing VCD or SVCD make sure you downsample it to 44.1k from 48k ... you should be able to do that with BeSweet when dong the AC-3 to WAV conversion.

I did have one vob file that I did get an mpa file. The VOB file was 650kb and once I converted it to MPG with DVD2AVI and TMPGE I had the same size MPG file. The VOB files that I'm having problems with are from a DVD that I downloaded. Each of the 5 VOB files are about 1GB. How can I convert them to smaller MPG files ?

    Thanks for any help
