Hi,
I have this DVD-R video, everytime I play it, using whichever software, it stops playing at 17 mins. Is there a program that can recover this so that i can watch all of it? The whole video is on the disk, all the VOB files are on the disk, but it only plays the first VOB file which is 17 minutes long.
I have tried ripping it, but it only rips the first VOB file, it's as though the other VOB files are not there, but they are when I look with windows explorer.
I also have a DVD+R. When I put this in my Pioneer 106 writer and my other DVD-ROM drive, it gives me an error saying:
'Windows cannot read from the disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is incompatible with Windows'.
is there any way to recover that as well?
Thanks
Kev

what sort of condition is the disc? if its scratched up you dont have much chance unless you are willing to pay money to sort it out. i put one of my discs in tepid water with a little detergent and left it for 30 minutes, came back, rinsed it off, hung it up to dry overnight, then buffed it really gently with a lint cloth. it played and i was able to rip it and burn it onto a new disc as backup. i dont know why that worked, maybe there was like grease in the tiny scratches that were on the surface? it cant hurt to try it i guess.

ive tried ripping the first one that i mentioned, but it just rips one vob file not the others.

ok so what program are you using to rip it and what mode are you ripping in, i.e file mode or iso mode?

i just tried the DVD+R disk which comes with the error message with smartripper and dvddecrypter and it wont recognize the disk.
as for the DVD-R that only rips one VOB file, ive tried claddvd, and i am trying dvddecrypter now. i dont know which mode it was in, but i think it was file mode.
edit: ok ive just finished with dvddecrypter in file mode. it has ripped all the VOB files, but all of them except for the one that works is 0 bytes in size and when i try playing them in powerdvd i get the error: DVD-Video playback graph building failed.
ive just tried iso mode and it rips the whole iso, ive extracted the files from the iso and all the file are correct in size, but when i try to play it, the dvd player program just crashes. -
ok so did you origionally burn these discs yourself? if so what burning app did you use? what speed did you burn at?

could be they burnt them too fast then. ask them if they can replace it.other than that i dont think there is much else you can do.
