I just got the drive and have been trying to flash to the 223 firmware. When I run the Windows flash program it all looks good but when I run nero infotools it still says 2.11. I go back into the flash program and it says 2.11. When the flash finishes it says you must restart machine for changes to take effect but does not say update OK.
I then tried the dos update and could not get it to recognize the bin file. It said enter bin file Ex. Updata xxx.bin (yes it is spelled updata) then it says file not recognized.
Am I missing something really stupid here.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Found the answer to my question from another overnight post. The DOS program has the wrong instructions. When you boot from the floopy drive and type in dvflash it brings you to a screen that says file to update Ex. Updata xxx.bin, at that point you type dvflash dv2_223.bin and it will flash. Be sure you don't have any media in the drive when you do this.
No luck with the Windows program.
Hope this helps someone else. -
I used the DOS version with no problems a few days ago. I find it easier and less stressful than the windows version.

thanks venom...that took me a step ahead but now when it asks for what i want to update it only lists my original burner...not my external optorite...any help there? thanks

There is no Device Manager or USB/Firewire under DOS environment, and that's your reason. External burner firmware can only be updated under Windows flasher (only for XP and 2000).

Did not see the external part. Sorry.
You can always take it out of the external enclosure and hook it up to the IDE interface, flash in DOS then put it back in. I know it's a pain in the ass but it would probably work.
