  1. I've been burning dvds for months now and have come across a strange oddity and am wondering if anyone else has fould a solution or run into the same problem. I use Shrink 3, using a Memorex Dual Format 4x drive, Memorex 4x + and - discs (Ricoh), they both play on a PS2 when complete, the + discs also play on a old GE player I have, the - discs will play on a cheap Apex 1100 I bought. But if I burn the + discs using DVD XCopy Express they'll play on the Apex 1100 but not on the GE, and the - will play on the GE, just the opposite effect. What gives?

Also I would like to personally thank all of you for posting all this great info in one spot, you guys are a lifesaver! Been lurking around for months and was burning coasters left and right until I found this site!

Welcome to the world of incompatibility. You will drive yourself nuts trying to get the same media, burnt with the same burning program, created by the same DVD Copy program to play in every DVD Player. Once your set-up works for you in your DVD player, stop there. If you want your back-ups to play in both your upstairs/downstairs, bedroom and your kids room, then I would suggest buying the same DVD player for all your rooms. Its the shortest route. And don't worry about trying to support any of your friends etc or family. I have seen this issue play out time and time again. DVD players that are marked on the unit that fully support DVD+R/RW and DVD -R/RW, SVCDs/VCD, JPEG etc are dirt cheap these days. My local Nebraska Furniture Mart carries no less then 15 different models in 3 different colors. All for under $80.00 US. Your chice, but not all DVD players are created equally.

I have a similar problem where some DVD's work in one player and the other doesn't. I have resorted to making my DVD-r work with my main player and if it happens to work on my cheaper then its a bonus. It's practically impossible to get all dvd players to work.

  4. Thanks for the replies, it just boggles my mind. The masterminds behind Shrink should be applauded for their efforts, what a great piece of software and to be free is so remarkable! I've tried every piece of crap trialware, only to come up short!

I agree totally. DVD Shrink has been my choice for some time now, even though I own DVD2One and DVDXCopy. DVD Shrink and Nero 6 do the job right each and every time. Glad you are having sucess.
