  1. question, when using cd, I can select between vcd and svcd. How come I cannot do this for dvd? when I went to burn my mpeg to cd it said it was not in the proper format and asked if I wanted to convert it. How come this option is not valid for dvd?

Iknow about frame rates and such and flags and fps, I was just curious to see what it would convert it to. I also understand that if you put junk in you get junk back. I just wanted to know why? using nero 6.x ultra flaky edition or sumthin like that.

I have two more questions, what s udp or whatever? I think it is kind of universal writing like both media and data, could anyone get me a little clearier. Also if I write an iso disc, how come on a disc with 4.7GB of space I can only write bout 4 or 4.2, is this the result of the 1024 rule? and also how does one enable overburn for a dvd?

Sorry for long post, just don't want to make a million posts and cut off others threads, filling the site

    Thanks for help

  2. Look to the left under Author. Basically you need to encode a valid DVD supported MPEG file (look the left under what is DVDR, normally a 720x480 29.97fps MPEG2 file but others are supported), then author the MPEG file to DVD format/standard. Authoring is the process of converting the MPEG file to a series of IFO and VOB files in a "VIDEO_TS" folder. You then burn this folder to your DVDR disc (again it's all covered in the authoring section).

Popular authoring tools are DVD Lab, TMPG Author and Adobe Encore. If you just want a basic DVD you can author with IFOEdit (freeware).
