Hi Guys.. I am not extracting whole DVD's I am using OSex to extract certain chapters of various concerts... into .m2v and .ac3 files. Then I am taking it into DVD studio pro to make chapters titles etc. Now the AC3 file extracted by OSex are not recognisable.. either by DVD studio pro or the Apack software that comes with DVD studio pro.

However if I take the file into Mac3dec and convert it into a 48 Khz AIFF file, DVD studio pro recognises it.... but it is a hassle

So what's up with OSex and AC3 files? Can anyone shed light on this please. Are there any other AC3 converters aside from mAC3dec? DVDbackup does not allow chapter extraction am I correct?

0Sex extraction damages AC3 files that are ripped in parts (and not a whole movie).

If you are using Panther, use DVDExtractor 0.9 for OS 9 in Classic mode. Panther provides better support for Classic and software runs as it should. DVDExtractor won't corrupt your AC3 files, and will let you rip by chapter ... It's not as intuitive for this task as 0Sex, but it doesn't damage your audio files, either.

  3. Search the forum. This problem has been discussed many times in the past. The solution is to open up the ac3 file with a program called Hexedit and delete some uneeded data from the file.

Really? This is excellent news, if it works correctly. In Jaguar, I'd get unuseable output every time. Damn, now I'm going to have to put an OS9 System Folder back on my Mac (thought I had said goodbye to it forever).
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

I tried the Hexedit route.. either I did it wrong or it does not work.. Instead the mAC3dec fix worked great.. sound is off by a hair.. but I could careless at this point..
