  1. I have gone through some of the messages in this forum on the subject but I just can't get this thing to work!

I'm trying to author a DVD with six movies on it, 1 is NTSC and the other 5 PAL (720x480 29.97fps and 720x576 25 fps).
I'm using TMPEnc DVD Author. I patch the header of the NTSC file before authoring (I get a warning from TMPEnc that the GOP is incorrect -whatever that is- I select ignore and continue). After the authoring is finished I repatch the VOB file back to NTSC requirements.
I then burn the DVDvideo with nero 6.x.

When I test this DVD on my PC with WinDVD 5 everything is ok, all 6 movies come up fine, but when I stick it in my standanlone player (Pioneer 444) all PAL movies play fine but the NTSC has a black band across the bottom of the screen and the sync is off.

It seems as if the Pioneer player doesn't switch to NTSC for this movie.
(The Pioneer plays both NTSC and PAL movies fine on their own).

Any ideas/suggestion on what to try?

  2. Patch PAL as NTSC instead of NTSC as PAL... problem will be solved!

Problem = PAL GOP restriction is 15... NTSC is 18. So if TMPGEnc is set to PAL the NTSC with a GOP of 18 will be non-standard.

  3. That's what I did. I patched the NTSC file as PAL then repatched it back after the authoring.

  4. Sorry! I posted it wrong! It's vice versa like above! (PAL as NTSC)

  5. I think I tried that on the 8th or 9th time and it didn't seem to work (but it was also about 3am so I could have been doing something completely different!).

I will give it another go, thanks.

  6. I tried it the other way around (patched the PAL movies to NTSC).
    Here's what happens:

The DVD plays fine on the PC with WinDVD5, on the standalone Pioneer 444 it switches to NTSC when the menu comes up, it plays the first movie fine (NTSC) but when I select the PAL movie I hear about 3 seconds of audio and then it jumps back to the menu!

    Your thoughts.....
