  1. I'm trying to capture from DVD with my ATI card and every newer video or DVD has copy protection where it will only record a couple frames of video and repeat those, but will record audio. Is there a way to get around this?

You can rip it, with a DVD-ROM and freeware programs.
    Hello.

The copy protection that is being used is called macrovision and can be removed on some dvd players. If you can find a hack for your dvd player on the left (under "dvd hacks") that will remove macrovision then you should be able to capture. Though, the best solution was mentioned by Tommyknocker because you will be recording without any loss of quality and you can record faster than it takes to play it.

I have used ULead DVD Movie Factory 2 to record in the past...but find that ATI MMC 7.6 is much better (IMHO)...and the macrovision removal tool works with Movie Factory...(just tested to make sure...) don't know about video studio though...

  10. this almost messed me up good. it did break macrovision and let me record with mmc, but the quality just isn't as good as i get with ulead. then when i tried to open ulead after that i would ge t a program error every time i tried to go to capture settings and it would shut down. i had to reinstall my ati drivers and now everything is back to normal.

  11. Just spend the $50 on a DVD-ROM drive and use the free ripping tools. It will be much easier on you.

  12. does no one think this alternative hasn't already occurred to me? for one thing, i don't have the extra cash for it right now. i'm looking for a simple solution using stuff i already have. i alread have a capture card and a dvd player. another thing that prevents this is that i only have one bay for a disc drive in my pc. i already have my dvd burner in it. one day i will get a new pc or get a dvd burner, but right now this is the easiest thing. besides, there aren't many dvd's i borrow or rent i would want to watch more than once. so why spend the money on on a dvd drive or burner when i wouldn't use it often?

    Huh...what?

Why don't you use the writer to rip?I guarantee you the quality will be better than capturing.

  15. Check out lordsmurf.com, he has some great guides for capturing with the ATI cards. I'm using the latest mmc and get great captures with his setup suggestions. Never tried dvd captures just tv and vhs but it should work.
