Am I doing this right

Hi

I picked up my DVD writer yesterday and I'm brand new to this lark, so please forgive my ignorance.

I'm trying to get a Divx avi fileonto a DVD-R to play in my stand alone player, I just want someone to confirm that I'm taking the right steps

1. Extract audio using Virtualdub
2. Encode to MPEG2 using TMPGencPlus
3. Author using DVDit PE
4. Burn using either DVDit or Nero

I get as far as step 3 but DVDit can't find a decoder for the file. I'm happy to go through the forums to investigate further if someone points me in the right direction, but is there anything obvious where I'm going wrong.

Yep, that sounds right. Try install a dvd/mpeg2 player(decoder) like PowerDVD or WinDVD or a MPEG2 Codec and see if you can use DVDit.

Or else try author and burn(step 3-4) with another author tool like Tmpgenc DVD author instead.

I've already got PowerDVD and MPEG2 codecs installed so don't know why DVDit won't work. However I gave TMPGenc DVD Author a go and everything worked fine.
