Currently building a new box for video editiing, but I get an error when adobe premiere launches saying it is unable to connect to any 1394 device and to double check that you have the Microsoft DV drivers installed.
I'm using an ATI 8500 DV with XP SP1. Video Drivers are up to date, and the camera (Panasonic DV953) is listed in device manager. The 1394 device has Microsoft device drivers installed as does the camera.
I have uninstalled Adobe Premiere but the issue remains. I am also not able to connect to the camera to capture using the DV Studio software that came with the camera.
Help.

try movie maker instead - to see if it works ..
if it does - its an issue with adobe , if it doesn't , i have no clue ..
microsoft Dv codec is built in -- nothing to install ..
which premiere are you using ?
also SOME people report it is best to not use the ms device drivers for the firewire but use the ones that come with it .. others say the oppisite - so try both ways can't hurt .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
Using adobe premeire 6.5.
I'll tyr movie maker and see what happens. If that doesn't work I'm at a loss.
The same video card, camera and software work on my other box. Looks like I may have to format and start over on the new one. -
FYI
Problem solved.
Dropped in a different sound card and the problem went away.
