  1. hey guys ive been lurking these boards for a while and this is my first post.

i seen that scenalyzerlive is the most recommended capture program on this site......is there any others that you guys recommend that give me a preview window as they are capturing?

i am using a advc 50 with an old toshiba vcr for now until i see wether its worth it or not to kick out the extra cash for a jvc with a tbc.

    i am running windowsxp pro.

what softwares do you recommend for a beginner looking to capture old home vhs tapes and putting them on dvd with basic cleanup and editing.

I also have a ADVC-50 and I capture with Scenealyzer almost exclusively. I found that it is least likely to drop frames on my system, also, since I'm using FAT32 file system it solves the file size problem for me. In fact, since I replaced my hard drive, I don't think I have every dropped a single frame using it, and I captured at least 50 hours of material since then.

For transfering DV to your computer, WinDV has a preview, and for the simplist programs for DV to DVD, I use TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc Author. TMPGEnc has noise filters that work good with VHS video. They slow up encoding considerably. Also VirutualDub has lots of filters available that will work with VHS-DV after you install a DV codec. VHS, depending on the quality, usually needs some filtering to get the best quality. Depends what you want for the end result and how much time you want to spend. If you need to do more advanced editing, there are a bunch of commercial programs that work good for a price. Spend a little time with the Guides to learn more.

  4. i have virtual dub and tmgenc but i was just wondering what capture only programs do you guys use that have a preview window?

i captured about 10 min of video with scenalyzer and when i played it back with wmplayer it sort of stuttered a little bit like every 45 seconds.

then i played it with power dvd and it didnt stutter.......whats up with that?
