When I make an SVCD and play it in windows, the 480x480 format doesn't cover the entire screen. Is there a way to encode or play these files so that Media Player displays them like it does VCDs?

    Thanks,
    George

  2. Hi Georgeo57,

Try a cvcd resolution of 352*480 that may help, I use this resolution more often, I have lower chances of macroblocks with it.

Are you saying I should capture at 352X480? Right now I'm capturing at 640X480, and need to continue doing this to get the best quality I can.

Is there a way to configure TMPGEnc so that it will make an SVCD with a 352X480 format?

    Thanks.

Yes, but there is no template for that format. Use the Unlock template, and set everyting as per SVCD template, but change the resolution.

480x480 SVCD can display full screen, you just have to tell Media Player(not a great plaer for MPEG2) to do it. It's a player issue not an encoder setting. Make sure you select 'Keep Aspect Ratio' or you will get short/fat people.

How do we tell WMP to do it?
Using the template for SVCD in TMPGEnc we have a vertically stretched picture which doesn't play in full screen in WMP.
To keep the source aspect ratio, I have to unlock the settings in TMPGEnc and set aspect ratio to 1:1 (VGA), but the width doesn't reach the full extension yet.
BS Player is much more versatile, we can play it in full screen, but we still have to force aspect ratio to 4:3 during playback.
I don't know what will come when I play it in a standalone player, will it correct the image?

    Thanks

Puertorican's CVD templates are in the Tools section, d/l and unzip them into the template folder of TMPGEnc.

A standalone will play a SVCD in the correct format (4:3 or 16:9) if the mpeg is encoded properly. To get a hint of what to expect, use a soft DVD player (WinDVD, PowerDVD) to play the mpeg. Don't use WMP - I've yet to find anything it's the best option for.
