I have about 100 white top 1xPrincos layin around that i had bought from AllmediaOutlet about 2 months ago. I saw on the site that these can be burned at 2x with proper firmware. I also noticed that on the spindles they say DVD-R 4.7gb/G04. My question is when i get my Pioneer107 and upgrade firmware to 8x4all....Would it be possible to burn these at lets say 4x? I know it is not reccommended and is a hit and miss deal, but do you think it would be possible or am i gonna f**k things up?

I also have a Sony Dru510a which i've used a couple of these Princos on but of course they only burn at 1x b/c of firmware limitations. I've mainly been using Ritek 4x G04 and Memorex 4x, cause these 1x speeds are driving me nuts!

    Any feedback would be helpful....Thanx

as far as i know, there is two types of princo discs.
    1. Princo 1-4x
    2. Princo 4x

The first ones only works good at 2x, while the other ones work fine at 4x. They look very similar, and the only difference is just if it says 1-4x or only 4x.

Thats my experience with the NEC 1300

I recently got a free pack of Princo for testing. Complete shit.

Out of 20 discs, only 12 survived. Horrible. Pioneer 105 and BTC 1004 for testing.

All -R 4x media can burn 1x/2x if burner/software allowed it.

I've been using Princos 1x discs successfully at 2x on my Cendyne / Pioneer 105 ever since I flashed it with 2x4All. They burn quite well at 2x and haven't given me any problems in my Pioneer 563a, Panasonic RV32 or Sony CXP875.

    P.S.
I also get the benefit of much higher rip speed but I have a dvd-rom too, so I figure, why stress the drive if I don't have to and just save it for burning.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Just thought i'd share my success story.
Let me first start off by saying i freakin luv this 107! With 1.10 patched firmware of course.

Ok now i just successfully burned a 1x white top Princo @6x(I thought 8 might be pushin it)LoL
I then checked the media with DVDinfo Pro and to my surprise, NOT 1 read error. So now i have about 100 of these that i can burn @6x, although i may try 8x just to see if i get any errors(u know we're all curious georges) Either way @6x 10min. is way better than 1 hour right? Hahaha

BTW, these are only 1x Princos. I had bought 2/50pk as a combo deal w/DVD cases from DVDR4less for $56 a piece. That site does also have Princos 1-4x and plain 4x. But i had ordered the 1x cause i previously owned a 104 which i would've burned these @2x.

Side Note: I successfuly burned a RitekG04 4x@8x w/no errors either and that took 8min. WOOP WOOP :P

I saw Princo singles for sale the other day so I bought one. It was a 1-4x.....it burned at 2x and turned out fine surprisingly(I'm a Ritek fan).
I also bought a single DVD made by Swisstec(a division of Sky) and got my first coaster ever.

  7. the question to ask yourself is the extra X minutes worth it for a possible coaster?

Princo has been praised and damned on this site many times. Personally, I have had good princo (white top label) and bad princo (labeled with the word princo, also can be viewed through the burn side, LOL)

I just kinda laugh (to myself) when people are wanting to convert and burn a movie in 1 hour (or less). The old farts on this board remember the days of encoding when a backup took about a day start to finish. amazing how things have changed in a year or so.

That's your opinion. My experience has been different.

The newer 1X Princo white-tops have a "1X" stamped near the center on the label side.

My experience is that the logo blanks are pretty bad. They're the ones with "Princo" and "4.7GB DVD-R" printed on them. The white-tops (without any printing) have been fairly good. I have gotten some bad ones, but no more than any other brand.

I don't know why people have problems with Princos? I've always bought the same glossy 1x white top Princos for almost 3yrs now, ever since my 104. I would say i've done about 300 burns on these things and if there were coasters, they were my fault. I've never had a complaint from people i've given them to either.
I've recently burned maybe 10 of them on my Sony Dru510a with no probs neither. Now my 107 writes them @6x(possibly 8x)?

I've noticed since day 1 people have been saying this media is "hit or miss". I just can't see it, unless it's the users/burning programs fault?
I recently have been using RitekG04s but im still not gonna turn my back on Princo, who got me through the years(when other media was a bit pricey)

PS>Just so you guys know, i previously stated that i bought from AllmediaOutlet and then i said DVDR4Less....It's cause i bought 100 each from both sites and sold 100 to my uncle.
