  1. Hi. Ok got a bit of a problem.
I want to capture something off of a Video (VHS). (I have done this before with no problems). I have a WinTV PCI card and use virtual dub to capture.
Now, it is fine when I capture off TV. But when I go to capture the video is all messed up. Jumping back to the begining and stutering loads. If I watch the video on my pc through winTV's prog or if I watch it in overlay mode in virtual dub it is fine. But if I watch it in preview mode the framerate is really bad.
    Could someone help please?

    Thanks

  2. Yup. All videos will only capture at 12-13 fps. Yet if I capture normal TV through my video its ok.
    Please help.
The 30 odd ppl who have read this muct have some idea.

    Thanks

  4. I had similar problems w/ an ATI AIW card. ATI recommended defragging the drive.

  5. Macrovision?

  6. I don't think it would be macrovision because I am trying to capture a home video that I mad myself.

  8. capture in mpeg or avi?? have you tried to capture a short raw avi file??

never had a when my source is a vcr, but the quality is bad. have you played with the interlacing or matching the framerate?? maybe the motion estimator??

the problems you are discribing sounds like your dropping frames. your capture res size or bitrate maybe set too high for the computer/software to record. It can't keep up.

  9. My comp is crap, but its not dropping any frames (or not saying it is).
I'm trying to capture a 352x288 25fps MJEG (The uncompressed AVI and huffy quality is really bad on my computer for some reason). I can always do this with no problems direct off TV but its only with VCR it messes up. I have captured from a VHS before and it worked fine, I just don't know why its started getting funny.
Also i'm not sure its the actual capturing that is the problem. When I set the video to preview in virtual dub, the framerate is really dodgy there as well, its even a bit dodgy in overlay mode in virtual dub. But it is fine when I am watching it through the WinTV 2000 program.

  10. Have you upgraded to directx8 and there's also a directx8 patch for capture cards.

Is your software set to receive input on channel 3 and you vcr is set for channel 4?? Or input 4/ vcr 3??

  12. Ok. This is very strange.
In my first post I said that I had captured from a video before. I just tried to capture from that video again, and I could perfectly.
I just don't understand it. So far I have tried my own home video (15 fps sometimes it drops frames somtimes it does'nt usually does though). I have tried a Manga Project AKO 3 (same a before). And Millencolin The Hi8 adventures. Its an official band video and this one captures perfectly 25fps no frame drops.
What the hell is going on?
I doubt there would be macrovision on my own home movie, and I thought WinTv didnt use macrovision. So what the hell could it be???????
    Could someone help please???

  13. Oh.
And also, I have tried all of the above. Thanks for your suggestion.
But Gadget, are you suggesting I try power Vcr to capture? Otherwise i'm not sure what relevance it has to my problem.
If you are suggesting using power vcr, I guess ill try it, but I have already tried to capture with Virtual Dub, AVI_IO and Ulead Video Studio 6's video capture utility.

PS sorry for the double post.
