    Hey all,

I'm currently ripping through the X-Files DVDs. All of season 1 is ripped, no problem. But the disks in season 2 (disk 2 onwards) seem to be copy protected: both Smartripper and DVD Decrypter (reports CSS/CPPM protection) start ripping the VOBs and then the progress bar stops moving indefinately even though the DVD drive read light and HD lights are active. Any suggestions?

I've tried looking for a way around this on the forum, but couldn't find an answer: sorry if I'm repeating someone else's question.

  2. errr...most of the DVDs are copy protected.....

what you can do is under smartripper's options, tell it to search for key every vob file, rather than once (if that doesn't work, choose the next key option)

also, another thing is to clean the bottom of the DVD..any scratches, dirt, dust, etc...can cause ripping probs

  3. rhegedus: In DVD Decrypter try using file mode instead of IFO mode. And rip all the files (VOB, IFO, etc) sometimes the copy protection is put on the other files and not just the VOB.

    Thanks for the help, guys.

The only problem is that the changes I tried didn't work. The wierd thing is that I've just ripped these files on another PC that only has a Samsung SD608 DVD reader whereas my PC has a LGE GCC4120B combo drive. The disks play OK in my stand alone DVD player, but are jumpy and get stuck when playing on my PC.

Is there a copy protection system that detects if the drive has writer capabilities and stops if from reading properly? I think there is a version of c-dilla that does this....if so, how do I get around it (short of getting a read only DVD drive!)

    Best wishes,

    Rob

If anyone has any ideas i would be glad to hear them

    Thanx
    Dave

Solved my problem by buying a new DVD-rom for ripping. Works a treat!

I also get DVDs like that from time to time. I play the main movie, and once it begins playing, I start ripping.
    Hello.
