I see a lot of information on different "capture cards". I have captured my video from a camcorder via firewire to a basic combo firewire/usb PCI card in my computer.

It seemed to work OK. What am I missing? From all the information the "Capture Cards" seem specialized and can be very expensive. Are there big differences in capabilities and quality of captured images?

What is the difference between my basic PCI combo firewire/usb card and these specialized cards?

If your camcorder has pass through, save time and do not bother reading about them. You are already at Valhalla, and using a capture card at this stage of the game will only bring you back down to earth. However, if you do not have pass through, some capture cards can capture composite and S-video in your computer.
    Hello.
