I've got a friend that has a few VHS tapes recored in SLP mode that have 6 hours of video per tape and wants each tape on DVD. Is there a reason to not just dump this to the HDD of my e80 and burn to dvd in LP mode or will quality be enhanced at all by splitting them in 2 hour lengths per dvd and burning in SP mode? My understanding is since it was originally recorded on the tape in SLP, that I can't get better than LP so there's no reason not to just put all of each 6 hour tape on one dvd.
Please give me your thoughts.
Thanks!

Quality of recording is very subjective thing. Best advice is..... "Try both aproaches and see what is best for you (or your friend)."
In a mean time.... I would record anything longer than 2h (max 2.5) on standalone DVD Recorder. But that is just my subjective opinion and somebody else might be satisfied with 6h quality.Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -
You can capture in 1/2 D1 resolution. This is typically good for 4 hours of DVD. However, since the tapes are SLP (15 fps, right?) the quality is going to be mediocre at best. You can probably do a little filter and squaeeze the bitrate down aand not notice. This will give you 6 hours on the DVD.
Another solution is to do them in VCD-DVD. This is good for 8+ hours and you won't be able to tell them apart from the original SLP VHS.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
