Just to see what would happen, I played a 5.9 GB commercial DVD movie known to have Macrovision on my Toshiba DVD player, connected by the S cable to Datavideo's DAC-100 analog <---> DV converter, and recorded it on my iMac imovie2.

I then recorded this imovie to VHS. As I had presumed, Macrovision had disappeared (praise DAC-100). But this commercial movie had gone from 5.9 GB to 20 GB. How can that be?

You aren't wrong. That is DV. iMovie records directly to DV format which = lots of HS space.
