    If you mean as a file extension it is more than likely a disc image. Although many programs use img extension.

    A disk image file is an exact copy of a disk. Image files contain all the data on the source drive including not only its files and folders, but its boot sectors, file allocation tables, and volume label.

    Many authorizing programs offer this option during disk creation. It's a handy way of storing disk projects for later use, or for creating multiple copies of a project. Just think of it as a ready to burn disk archive file.
