  1. I how this isnt in the wrong forum since im not really asking about conversion.

I want to know when you author svcd video to a dvd does it only work in dvd players that play svcd or will it work in all dvd players? anyone with personal experience?

in other word will it just be like having an svcd on a dvd media or will it actually author out to a real dvd format movie playable in all dvd players.

This weekend I was at a Lan party and my friend had brought along a svcd of Freddy Vs Jason. For some reason, the host's apex dvd player wouldn't play the disc. Previous lan parties the host's apex dvd player was able to play my svcd's. I had to demux then mux my friend's svcd and apply a new header. This finally allowed the apex dvd player to show the film.

If this didn't work, I had a back-up plan to convert the svcd to dvd. Using this guide:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/142742.php

I was able to burn the newly authored svcd/dvd to a princo dvd-r and the apex dvd player played the film with no problems at all. The resulting dvd-r was a compliant dvd format- it had the usual audio_ts and video_ts files. So yes, if you author a dvd-r using a svcd source (and follow the previous mention guide) you will get a compliant dvd which could play on a set top.

As for burning a svcd onto a dvd-r by way of a dvd-data format, I've found that on a computer's dvdrom drive, the svcd sometimes will play, but when you put the dvd-r in a cdrom drive, the cdrom drive is unable to read the dvd-r. Same hold true when you put it in a set top dvd player, since the dvd-r wasn't burned in the standard dvd format (no audio_ts or video_ts files) the dvd player won't play the dvd-r

As for my friends mysterious svcd, I would find out later (after reviewing the muxing info) that he really had a cvd version of Freddy vs Jason and as far as I now, there's no modern set top that can properly play a cvd

    Hope this helps
