Rip with DVDShrink or DVDDecrypter then use AC3tool to convert the audio to .wav or MP3. AC3tool takes a bit of getting used to but works well......The AC3 analysis does NOT work for me. I just use the AC3 extraction then once it is loaded....I use the AC3 to .wav function.
You'll most likely get one big .wav file so I also use CDWave to split the .wav into tracks.

  6. rip the dvd files to hd? not needed! with dvd2avi you can directly rip the audio part to wave from the dvd disc, saves you time

  7. FYI,

If the different songs are set up as individual chapters (like on DVD-Audio) on the DVD then you can just Demux each chapter in DVDDecrypter seperately. Then just convert each one to MP3 or Ogg and you will have each song independently.

Can you rip each chapter in DVDDecrypter when you are IFO mode?
I've never been successful doing it this way. Which mode and can I do it with the MAIN MOVIE portion only?

Why should that matter? Since you get 1 vob each chapter, you just rip the audio from the vobs you want, then send them all to the trashcan.

Yes, when you are in IFO Mode you first select Stream Processing-> Enable Stream Processing->Demux

Select only the Audio track you want (normally 0x80) un-select the rest including the video stream.

Go back to the input screen, the main movie should be selected by default, and un-select all of the chapters but the first one (assuming that it is the first song, some disks have an intro as the first chapter)

In the save settings name it Song 1 (or Chapter 1) then hit the button and let DVDD Demux the audio.

Go to the input screen and unselect chapter 1 and select chapter 2, save as Song 2, hit button, rinse and repeat untill all tracks have been copied.

Then convert each AC3 file to MP3 or Ogg with headac3he (my preference) or Besweet or AC3tool.

This is what I do for DVD Audio discs.

    Headac3he or Besweet huh?
I hope they work better than AC3Tool.

    Thanks again

    OK...
Headac3he and Besweet suck (for me). AC3Tool worked ONCE.
    Now What?
What the F%&& is going on? What the F%&& am I doing wrong?

  14. Did you follow the guides at Doom9? What kind of problems are you having spicifically?

I can try to help you with Headac3he, but I really only tried Besweet once.

Are you having probs with setting up Headac3he, or does it crash after it starts encoding? Need more info.

Did Headac3he give you any error messages or something? Do you have enough space on your harddisc (if you chose 32bit float in Headac3he it needs a lot of disc space as it creates a temporary 32 bit WAV file on the first pass.)

The only other thing I can offer is, if you are compressing to MP3 make sure you set it to CBR (constant Bit Rate) instead of ABR (Average Bit Rate) or VBR (Variable Bit Rate) as MP3 is not too good with anything other than CBR.

    It's not that hard:
Rip with DVDDecrypter in chapter mode.
Now, you'll have one VOB for each chapter. First is probably some menu, and your first tune may be the second or so, but let's asume it's VOB #2.
    Open VOB 2 with DVD2AVI.
On the Audio menu, select which audio track you want, Channel Format Autoselect, Dolby Digital Decode, and 48 -> 44.1 Ultrahigh (If you want WAVs that can be burned to Audio CD right away).
    Save project.
After some whirring and bliping (no, just kidding!) you'll have a dv2 file and a wav file of the selected audio track. Piece of cake.
Repeat for all VOBs/chapters you want the audio ripped from.

Do either of you know the exact procedure for opening either a .vob or a renamed .vob to .ac3 in AC3 Tool?
I have both DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink...I thought by taking only the concert and not the credits to .vob's with Shrink I would be better off....I guess I was wrong.
It seems I get NOWHERE just taking the audio from the DVD....it appears I need to rip the entire DVD (credits and concert) to my hard drive?
Do I need to use AC3 Extraction first in AC3 Tool?
Do I need to use AC3 Analysis first in AC3 Tool?
If not....how do I place "something" into the AC3>wav portion of AC3 Tool?
    Thanks....and sorry for yelling....

Yes, that makes matters much less complicated...
Just do like I wrote before. It's a working process.

    OK….THIS worked in AC3 Tool:
I ripped with DVDDecrypter(but only one song because the DVD is HUGE – Genesis / The Way We Walk) keeping ALL of the audio tracks.
Opened AC3 Tool and started with AC3 Extraction and it created a file called AudioAC3.
Started AC3 Analysis BUT DID NOT ANALYSE the file.
I then switched to AC3>wav in AC3 Tool….chose my settings and away I went.
I chose the AC3 2 channel (of which there were 2 on this DVD AND a 6 channel one) this time and all went well. Although I KNOW I chose the 5 channel one on the previous DVD that AC3 Tool worked with.
Next time I’ll try renaming the .vob to .AC3 and start in Analysis Mode to see if I really need to “extract” from a .vob.

    Here is the stream info:
    0x20 - Subtitle / LBA: 354583 / PTS: 00:05:08.310 / Delay: 360ms
    0x80 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / LBA: 354510 / PTS: 00:05:07.974 / Delay: 24ms
    0x81 - Audio - AC3 / 6ch / 48kHz / DRC / LBA: 354504 / PTS: 00:05:07.942 / Delay: -8ms
    0x82 - Audio - AC3 / 2ch / 48kHz / DRC / LBA: 354523 / PTS: 00:05:08.038 / Delay: 88ms
    0xE0 - Video - MPEG-2 / 720x576 (PAL) / 4:3 / LBA: 354475 / PTS: 00:05:07.950 / Delay: 0ms

The disc giving me PROBLEMS has Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM Stereo sound formats. WEIRD.
