  1. I just got a Plextor PX-708A and have no idea what media to use for what purpose. Is there a primer on what the best type of DVD+-R and DVD+-RW or what is the best media for buring and making a dvd for a set top dvd player? I have both Nero v6 and EZCDv6.

  2. Use DVD-R for maximum compatibility with set top players. Use DVD+R for maximum write speed and data backups. I don't trust DVD+/-RW media for important or long-term backup, though many people do. I use DVD+RW for music backups and for backing up my purchased factory video DVDs. Personally, I prefer RecordNow Max 4.5 over the other two softwares you mentioned. IMHO it also has more reliable DVD+/-RW packet writing.

    Wings,

Although I also have seen better compatibility on set top DVD players with DVD-R, just buy a couple of each DVD-R, DVD+R, and do a project on both. Then use those to find out what works on your set top players of choise (yours, your parents', your brother's,....) and then buy accordingly. There is no guarantee as to what will work on which player. Just DO NOT buy a spindle of 100 DVD+/-R before doing a bit of experimenting.

You can also include DVD+-RW in the experiment. I've done it to find out that with the set top players around me, I have to stay away from DVD+RW for video.

    Good Luck,

  4. Ah! Much thanks for the advice everyone. I bought a 10 pack of TDK DVD-R and a 10 pack of DVD+R that I will mess around with. Good idea doing one DVD test with both types to see which is best for video ect.

Jesus, when are these discs going to come down in price?

They've been coming down in price. I wasn't very long ago that you could easily pay $10 or more for one blank DVD.

If the cost of a new car had come down as much in the last few years you could pick up a new BMW for $5000.
