Why did dvd+r start out at 2.4x?

CAuse 2x -R was out and it made it seem better to push it the extra mile.

It's not up for public discussion. That's the way the DVD Alliance wants it. Keep meddling in their grand scheme to control the world and you'll be burning CD-Rs on a 1X burner out of Hong Kong!

Because they refused to listen to me!
I wanted 1.659X for compatibility with CD players but they just laughed at me!
And you should of heard the nasty things they actualy said when I also suggested putting grooves on the label side for Phonograph compatability!!
Same type fools as those dummies that refused my suggestion to make tape backup tapes compatible with 8track players, and you see how quick those 240mb tapes went down the tubes NOW!!!
