  1. I was wondering if anyone new how to or what program to use to transfer avi's or mpeg's to dvd-r's to play on a dvd player. I know you can take a movie off a dvd and make them transfer into a avi or mpeg. But there has got to be a way to trasfer it back to the dvd-r so it is able to play in a dvd player. If anyone can help me, that would be great. Thanks!

You have to start at the beginning - What is DVD

    Then Convert
    Then Author

all on the left side of this page.

Authoring is entirely different than ripping and burning an existing DVD.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

First you need to make DVD compatible mpegs out of your source files using one of several mpeg encoders. Lots of step by step guides in the Convert section. Skip this step if your mpeg is DVD compatible.

Then you need to author your mpegs into DVD format, guides in the Author section.

Then you need to burn your authored files to disk.

    Good luck!

  4. Zippy,

So is there a certain program I can use to author the mpeg back to DVD compatiblity? I am still a little confused on how I author it back to the DVD format. I am guessing by what you are telling me that there is a program out there that can do that. At least I hope so because I am weak on the programing area. Ohh well. Just curious. Thanks for the help too!

If an mpeg is not DVD compliant then it needs to be converted into an mpeg that is. TMPGEnc and several other encoders can do that.

Once the mpeg is dvd compliant then it can be authored. That means that the mpeg is changed into a file structure that a DVD player will accept.

Both are very different processes, but each is a step in creating a DVD. They are covered in better detail in the guides and articles over on the left hand column.

they have dvd players that play avi's, mpegs, and a whole host of other video types that can be burned directly to dvd-r/rw

just put all your .avi's/mpegs directly onto the dvd then put it in and push play.

wonderful machines, soon as my $$ flow goes up a bit im getting one.

  7. galactica,

Where did you find that out? I might have to save up some money for one of those! If you remember where you saw the link, can you send it to me. I want to take a look at this one! Thanks! 8)

Did a search in the players section, apparently all these players support divx.
