  1. I am shortly getting sent a dvd movie from the usa and i am wondering if i will be able to make a backup of it seeing as i am in the U.K
I use DVD shrink with no problem but have never tried to copy a movie with a different region code

any help on this matter much appreciated

p.s the other issue is the NTSC and PAL will that cause problems too ?

Rip with DVDdecrypter to remove the region code and burn (after compression/stripping if needed). If it is NTSC it will play on PAL systems without any difficulty.

  4. if it doesn't match the region your DVD drive is set to then it won't play unless you change the region, which you can only do a limited number of times before the DVD drive locks to that region. you can use a software that knocks out region coding on the fly to rip it with or flash region free firmware to your drive, which is what I've done but flashing can screw up the drive if you aren't careful.

You do not need to change the region code on your DVD drive in order to rip the DVD, only to play it.

  6. if its DVD-5 just rip it and use infoedit to make it region free if it's a DVD-9 you can still rip and use info edit but you can use dvdshrink to make it region free also. Some DVD do not like to be region free if you have this problem then just back up the main movie to make it region free.
