The newest update of BHA Gold5 v5.38 DOES NOT support the Optorite DD0201 drive; furthermore, installing the update will make the drive unrecognizable to other DVD recording software. BHA states that they support dd0203 and assumes that since dd0203 and dd0201 are supposedly the same drives, dd0201 is supported; in fact, this isn't true.
Here are the tests that I ran while trying to troubleshoot why my Optorite DD0201 drive was recognized by W2K but not any of the software programs like Nero, BHA Gold5, & WinDVD.
After I received and installed my drive, I immediately installed all the included programs (including BHA gold5 v5.29a), applied all the latest updates, and rebooted my pc only to find that the Optorite Drive was not recognized by any of the software programs; it could be used only as a CD rom drive, but not even as a CD-Recorder To make a long story short, I made sure that the Optorite dd0201 was the only DVD/CD Rom driev in my system.
I then uninstalled all the BHA software (including the updates) and then just reinstalled the BHA Gold5 WITHOUT applying the updates and the Optorite DD0201 worked. The only problem is that the BHA Gold5 version 5.29a does not support HD-Burn. After I tried reapplying the update patch, BHA Gold once again did not recognize the Optorite DD0201 drive.
I once again uninstalled the BHA updated software and just reinstalled the basic version without applying updates.
Lo and behold, the Optorite DD0201 drive was there and usable once again.
Have since tried burning a CDR using HD-Burn on a TDK CDR and it worked wonderfully. Still waiting for my DVD-R's to arrive before proceeding to other tests.
Hope this post might save other people from some frustrations.
Cheers.
