Devanshu,
Was he still there after the local anesthetic wore off? I ha d1 severed tendon repaired once and thought it was great how you have no pain from surgical cutting and sterile cleanliness. 4 hours later, the back of my hand felt like some one was beating on it with a hammer, in time with my heart beat, Boom, Boom, Boom.
Since, in 90 or more percent of the cases, it is BS, maybe the teacher just had a little snip to show surgery was performed, and told to go home.
A friend from work had his surgery all set up, all the tests done, yep, you got it, I'll cut on you, come on in tomorrow.
He snoozed at work on the right side of the lunch table, jaw on his right fist., woke up with "carpal tunnel syndrome" in his right arm.
He thought about it, went around to the other side of the table snoozed on his left fist, woke up with "carpal tunnel syndrome".
Needless to say, he has had neither mitt cut on, nor does he have the "syndrome" anymore.
I'm surprised you have been diagnosed with it. It is not the "disease of the day" anymore, just as there is no such thing as "TMJ", temporal mandibular joint disorder, from 15 years or so ago.
You know, open your mouth real wide, did you hear that click? You got TMJ, but I can fix it, only 5000 bucks, and your insurance will pay for all of it.
If you do get the procedure, get one at a time, unless you have a really good friend, or your wife REALLY loves you.
BTW, teachers belong to unions. Where I work, guys who had it done were off for at least 6 weeks, with therapy in the interim.
Cheers,

Well from what I remember, he said he wasnt under any anesthetics but rather an injection that nummed(which would be local anesthetic I guess) his hand so he didnt feel anything. He was up during the whole thing, but they had a curtain over the hand they were operating on so he doesnt accidentally look and move his arm. The guy loved his job more than anything...I remember we had a sub that day and he walked in during the middle of the class with bandages on one had and dismissed the sub and took over(he was head of the social studies department). Heck of a teacher(his tests were a b**** though).
