Anyone have any hands-on experience with the new Pioneer combo TiVo/DVD-RW DVR-810H or DVR-57H

Looks cool, MSRP of $1199 and $1800 seems extreme...

Lots of hands on. The Tivo units don't allow editing of content like TV series. Pretty poor for such a high price....

  3. Yes the Authoring SW looks pretty basic (pick which episode to list first, second, third, etc and PQ to burn, thats pretty much it.)

But I believe that many people want to put minimal effort into archiving and might be happy with the limitations??? (Spent alot of time editing out commercials, making my DVDs fancy menus, and such and most people seem unimpressed )

So...if I record a TV series to DVD, I WANT to keep the commercials?? Not me. That's why I use the "shorten segment" on the Panasonic E80 and get rid of the commercials before burning to DVD-R. You can't do that with the Tivo units. Yes, I think the units are way too complicated for the average person as of yet who is mainly into pressing 1 or 2 buttons to make a VHS tape. Even playback presents a number of problems with all the options that can be used. Maybe in a few years it will be more simplified for those people but the Panasonic is a cool toy for me...
