From what I have learned so far
Video stream up to 8000 MP2
Audio stream up to 1500 PCM Audio.
Now this authors and plays fine on my player, but when I look at the audio it is described as LPCM. This is not a definition I am used to seeing. I assume because all pressed discs have DTS or DD5.1 so that is shown as the description for and AC3 track.
Even the stereo tracks of studio discs seem to show DD2.0
Do I need to encode my PCM file into AC3 2.0 to achieve this?
EDIT: Hmm should I have posted this in the Audio section not the authoring section? Bad practice to double post. Mods feel free to move.

Unless you are in NTSCville. Then LPCM or AC3.
(I don't know where Hertford is.)There's no place like 127.0.0.1

In Hertford , Hartford , and Hampshire, Hurricanes Hardly Happen ?
I think its
Hertford, Heriford and Hampshire. I live in the country but can't be bothered to work out how to spell herriford
Hertford England. North of London. Hartford CT was founded by someone from Hertford England.
So I'm in PALs ville, but the disks are destined for PCs in NTSCsville.
While my DVD player will handle NTSC I believe a standalone player in the states will not handle PAL. PAL>NTSC is a task for another day IMHO.
My understanding is that a properly authored PAL disk will contain 8000 bitrate Video and 1500 bitrate LPCM. This works and plays on my standalone (media permitting),
MP Audio is not standard, though takes up less room - correct? I can author with MP audio, but as 30 minutes of my home movies is enough for anyone disc space is not really a problem.
So should I be converting my WAVs to AC3 or are my disks pink/green/yellow or whatever book it is complient?
Is AC3 what studio issued discs use?
Thanks for the replies. Most of the forums I post to are UK based so Hertford is usually sufficient. -

As a PAL person you can choose between 3 choices for audio. Currently.
A mod (I would say who if only I remembered at the moment) recently reported that mp2 audio has been dropped as a requirement for PAL players. So, you can use it in current players, but I don't know what will happen in future.
But then, who does? :c)
But discs I make for U.S. family, I author in PCM/NTSC which I can also view. I have not gotten into AC3 yet. That's next. :c)
