  1. It's been over a year since the DOW has been above the 10,000 mark (Jun.02 to be exact). Today it ended at 9812, a few hundred shy. The record is something like 11,500, at the boom height. Predictions anyone?

I say the new $20's will cause everyone to want more money. So they won't invest because they are too busy dancing with their money in the local video store. Times will get tough. And we'll be forced to eat our first born.

    It's all the Reserve's fault!!!

It seems like forever since it was over 10k. My guess is that as soon as it gets close to or just over 10k, all the analysts that missed the boat will be out in force, telling us how the market is "overvalued" and that we should sell... so they can buy in cheaper, of course. Hell, they're already saying that. But with the economy improving (too slowly, but improving) the P/E ratios aren't looking as bad as they would have 6 months ago.
My strategy all along has been buy and hold. I've had the same stocks for over 10 years, and I still had a profit all the way through the decline, where if I had needed to sell, I could have, and still come out ahead.
All the people that bailed out over the past three years may have put off getting back in for too long - and there's still plenty of cash on the sidelines to fuel the rally for a while. But once it reaches 10k unless there is signifigant buying, there will be a psychological barrier at that level that needs to be conclusively overcome. OTOH, it may also have the effect of bringing in a lot of people that were fence-sitting. When the news hits (many aren't paying attention right now) that the Dow has reached 10,000 again, it may spark some kind of rush to get in. Who knows? We can hope...

I know exactly what you mean...I havent sold a single share of my most valueable stocks since I started out(I got rid of the ones I knew were a bad investment as soon as they went up a few).
