    We need more info.

Is it a VCD or a SVCD?
What operating system are you running? (i.e. Win98, 95, ME, XP, 2000, etc etc)
What version of Media Player do you have?
What program did you use to make the VCD? (i.e. Nero, NTI, Adaptec, etc)
Any and all other pertinant info would be most useful in helping us to help you diagnose the problem.

  3. I have a new compaq computer with Windows ME and don't know the version of Media Player. I burned it with nero and it is a vcd. I also tried to use the virtual dub capturing program from the website directions and couldn't figure it out. So I used the Video program that came from my Dazzle card VideoStudio it's called. Thanks for help.

This isn't as easy as it sounds to do. so thanks

  4. I think your gonna have to have a DVD program for your computer. There should be some links in the tools section for some DVD players. (insert the VCD in your regular CD player, and use the DVD program to watch it).

That should work for you...I believe..but I'm sorta a n00b myself, so I could be wrong.

  5. Hey LBcork, I too am new to this, made my first VCD less than a week go. I also had the same problem you are experiencing, VCD would play in the DVD-Rom using Win DVD player program but I had read in a section of this site that a VCD was supposed to play in "any" cd-rom. The thing that I was trying to do was make the cd-rom open the VCD using WinDVD, that didn't work! I would try to open the VCD from "MY Computer" until I would get the "Open With" box and I'd try to make WinDVD open the VCD, I was close but as they say, NO Cigar! All I had to do was to highlite the "Microsoft Windows Media Player" or the "Windows Media Player" and there it went. The thing I haven't figured out yet is why Windows ME doesn't remember to use the Media Player to play the VCD the next time I pop it in the CD-rom drive, I have to go thru the sme process each time to get it to play. Three is probably a simple cure to this that I'll probably say DUH about after I either figure it out or someone tells me. Good Luck, Questor569

    LBcork,
It's simple. No need extra codec to play mpeg (VCD). WMP play it nice. Make this:
Open WMP (Windows Media Player) then "open file" and choose "all files" then load your blábláblá.DAT (this .DAT file is really your .mpg file after burned and it is in the AVSEQU directory in your VCD). Enjoy your first VCD.
    Bye

  7. Have you opened the Media Player, and found the .DAT file on the VCD and it will not play it? What error message does Media Player give?

  8. OK, still confused. Someone said to go into Windows Media Player click open file and then all files. I can't find that when I go into open and click on the drive where my VCD is it gives me other files but nothing is in them. I don't know what a .DAT is.

I did download i-Video CD player and it picked it up automatically and played it so I know it works, but I should be able to figure it out on the media player and just can't. I may need more simplistic instructions like to open the file are you talking about going up to the top and click on File and then open?

Thanks for all your opinions. I'm trying.
